Reflection Essay

Rhetorical Analysis

The purpose of a rhetorical analysis is to identify how the author uses strategies to appeal

or persuade an audience. I chose homework as the topic of my rhetorical analysis, because

education is vital to an individuals livelihood. A child having no homework has an impact on his

or her curricular activities. The intended audience that the author is trying to convey are school

officials and the secondary audience are parents. The author is trying to convince the audience

that there should be a ban on elementary and middle school homework.

The difficulty that I had was choosing a topic. I had to change topics because the first

topic which was students wearing uniforms was too broad of a topic. I changed from students

wearing uniforms to homework should not be in elementary and middle schools. Another thing

that was hard was understanding how the author of used ethos, logos and pathos. I am least

happy about the length of my paper because it should include more details.
