7. Movement/Music activity:
a. Learning Objective: In this activity, the students will
see how the body is able to become art. This activity will also
allow children to practice balance with their bodies abilities
and encourage gross motor development.
b. Materials-
Large open space
Music Player
The song El Negro Jose by Mariachi Nuevo
Tecalitln
c. Prompt/Instructions-
Find a partner
Choose who will be partner #1 and who will be
partner #2
Partner #1 will lead partner #2 first
Partner #1 leads different movements while
partner #2 mirrors those movements
Partner #1 and #2 continue to move until they
hear the music stop
When the music stops the partners freeze in
one mirroring pose
Teacher will let students know when partner
#1 and partner #2 switch roles
8. Art Lesson:
a. Learning Objective: Through this art lesson, students
will practice painting self portraits. They will be encouraged to
notice their own facial features, the shapes of those features,
and skin color in order to paint a self-portrait. Throughout this
process, the goal will also be to show the students that they
can be artists. And just like a professional artist, they will be
asked to sign their names on their painting.
b. Materials-
Thick cardstock paper
Pencils
Tempera paints
Mirrors
Variety of paint brush sizes
Art smocks
c. Prompt/Instructions-
Each student receives a mirror and will look at
themselves
Teacher will guide students into thinking about
their different attributes
Students will create their own self-portrait
using acrylic paints
o Students will be encouraged to use
mirrors throughout creating their self-
portrait
Students will sign their own self-portrait when
they are finished
