WASHINGTONSenatorJohnHoeven,amemberoftheSenateAppropriationsCommittee,today
announcedthatNorthDakotawillreceiveupto$15millioninfederalfundingtohelpreimbursethestatefor
costsincurredasaresultoftheDakotaAccessPipelineprotests.Hoevenworkedtoincludegrantfundingin
theDepartmentofJustice'sbudgetaspartoftheFiscal2017fundinglegislationannouncedtoday.Thestate
mustsubmitanapplicationtotheDepartmentofJustice(DOJ),whichwillprovide$15millionforemergency
lawenforcementeventsoccurringduringFiscalYears2016and2017.Theprogramwillbeadministeredbythe
DOJsOfficeofJusticeProgramsStateandLocalLawEnforcementAssistance.Thegrantispartofalarger
governmentfundingbill,whichmustbeapprovedbyCongress.

AsamemberoftheAppropriationsCommittee,IveworkedtosecurefundingintheDepartmentof
Justicebudgetthatstatesandlocalitiescanapplyfortodefercostsforemergencylawenforcementsituations,
includingtheDakotaAccessPipelineprotests,saidHoeven.ThisshouldenableNorthDakotatogetupto
$15millionfromtheFiscalYear2017budgettohelpdeferthecostsassociatedwiththatlawenforcement
effort.

Duringtheprotests,Hoevenworkedtosecurefederallawenforcementresourcestosupportstateand
locallawenforcement,aswellasArmyCorpsofEngineerresourcestohelpcleanuptheprotestsitepriorto
thespringthaw.
