Introduction
Anelectricalbushingcanbeexplainedasanapparatus
fortransmittingpowerinoroutofenclosures,i.e.,
barriers,ofanelectricalapparatussuchas
transformers,circuitbreakers,shuntreactorsand
powercapacitors.AccordingtotheANSI/IEEE
Standarddefinitionanelectricalbushingisan
insulatingstructure,includingathroughconductoror
providingacentralpassageforsuchconductor,with
provisionformountingabarrier,conductingor
otherwise,forthepurposeofinsulatingtheconductor
fromthebarrierandofanelectricalcurrentfromone
sideofthebarriertotheother.
Typicalbushingdesigns(inthiscaseEpoxyResin
Sinceelectricalpoweristheproductofvoltageand ImpregnatedPaperBushings,Siemens)
current,theinsulationinabushingmustbecapableof
withstandingthevoltageatwhichitisapplied,andits
currentcarryingconductormustbecapableofcarryingratedcurrentwithoutoverheatingtheadjacentinsulation.
Thebushingmustalsobeabletowithstandthevariousmechanicalforcesappliedtoitandinsomecasesitmust
alsoprovidesealing(e.g.fortransformeroil,SF6gas).
