Positive Behavior Support Plan Rationale

This artifact is a Positive Behavior Support Plan which was a behavior plan designed based on

one students behaviors and needs in class. With the behavior plan, I collected data on the

students targeted behavior and tracked how often the behavior occurred and any type of trigger

which I noticed. I then researched and found different strategies for the student to use to replace

the negative behaviors. After incorporating these new strategies in place, I observed the student

again to see if he was making positive progress and if I needed to put new strategies in place.

This artifact is an example of CEC Standard 1 (Learner Development and Individual

Learning Differences), CEC Standard 2 (Learning Environments), and CEC Standard 7

(Collaboration).

This artifact demonstrates my understanding of CEC standard 1 (learner development and

individual learning differences) and CEC standard 2 (learning environments). With this

artifact, I had to create and implement a positive behavior plan for a student in my class who

consistently was demonstrating negative behavior in class. In order to write this plan, I had to

observe the student in several settings and over a duration of time to identify types of specific

behaviors he was exhibiting. In order to help improve his behavior, I had to reflect on Justins

actions and behaviors in class and think of strategies that I could teach him to replace his

negative behavior. In order to come up with these strategies, I had to understand Justin and what

he was motivated by. I also had to take time and figure out what his triggers were and how I

could help teach him to identify these and how to respond in a positive manner. When

conducting observations and taking notes, I also looked into Justins past report cards to look for

patterns and any mention of the behaviors which I was seeing in class. When I came to the team
to discuss Justin, I was able to give them a well-rounded description of the student and how he

has done in past years and what behaviors are my primary concern.

This artifact also demonstrates my understanding of CEC Standard 7 (Collaboration). When

working on the BIP, I had to collaborate with other teachers to collect base line data and

observations on Justin. I did observations in class but also asked other teachers to do

observations to see if the same behaviors were seen in other classes. Also, I worked with the

special educator and behavior interventionist to come up with accommodations and strategies to

use in the class when creating the BIP. Our school behavior interventionist was very helpful in

assisting me with deciding on interventions to put in place to help Justin.

My students will benefit from my understanding of the BIP process and documents. In the past, I

have had students who have BIPs and I have been responsible for implementing them. I

understood the accommodations and the strategies which I would put in place in the class but

was not as familiar with the data and notes provided based on the assessments. Through

completing this artifact, I now have a better understanding of the data the is collected and

reviewing it over to better understand my students behavior. I can look over the BIP and gain

more understanding about the student, their behavior, and possible triggers.
