1. What office are you running for? State, local, national? Are you running for school board, or
I am running for president because I want to change the travel ban, the deportation of
I am passionate, dedicated and someone who will work to create change. I carry such
indignation about the recent executive orders and policy changes. Although I may not be a
refugee or an immigrant, and so cannot imagine the heartache and turmoil, it still tears at my
heart. Refugees and immigrants need support, not shunning. Simply because we were fortunate
enough to be born within the borders of a prosperous and free land, that is not an
accomplishment. It is a blessing and privilege, but one that carries responsibility for those who
According to the Washington Post, 90,000 people have already been affected by this ban.
That is almost everyone in Salt Lake City whose future hangs in the balance over a fear of
terrorism that is creating more hate rather than peace. My classmates mother was just taken from
her house and deported back to Venezuela; a student, just like me, who used to come home to
her mom every night is now living with her grandparents. She feels fortunate if she can talk to
her on Skype once in awhile. I cant imagine living without my mother and I dont want others to
be forced to either.
I also relied on after-school programs as a child for socialization and a way to keep me from
participating in unhealthy things that would have stemmed from boredom, frustration, and the
always foolish but daring teen spirit. My mom has multiple sclerosis, and it is just the two of us. I
know what it is like to need somewhere to study and a way for people to take care of you. I want
children to succeed in school and have access to healthy recreational activities that these after
school programs were a catalyst for. According to the Deseret News, 72% of students who
participated in afterschool programs improved in math and 77% in English. Given these numbers,
there is something seriously wrong with the impending threat of 1.4 billion dollars being taken
I am smart. Smart enough to know that I may not always have the answers, but I will find
the people that do. I will not stop until I am educated about the issues and I will come into this
job with humility and determination. My job will be my life. I know I will have to make hard
decisions, but I will try to do everything with respect and create a better environment for not just
I am limited with my qualifications but so is our current president. Many of my strengths rely
on the heart and grit. I am working hard as a college student to improve my critical thinking and
expand my knowledge of worldly issues. I volunteer and do things such as Alternative Spring
Break where I was able to become better acquainted and impassioned towards the plights of the
immigrant and refugee. The personal challenges I have gone through have given me empathy and
I have a courageous spirit, which is one of the basic tenants of being an American. I acknowledge
there will be growing pains and setbacks but my drive to progress change will always be more
I am running because I believe that we are going change that is going on in the wrong
direction. I view myself as more of a progressive thinker, but these supposed strides forward are
actually creating strained foreign relationships and a flawed economic plan that will, according to
BBC news, increase the top 1%s income by double digits and the bottom quarter only seeing a
1.9% increase. I am running because according to Time magazine, racism has also increased
nationwide. This countrys most basic belief is that we are all equal, and we deserve a country
that is united, not paranoid of judgment and fear of violation. We deserve a figurehead that will
represent us with respect for every demographic, not just those who voted for him, and actively
work to create a better foundation for our country from the bottom up.
And why are you the best candidate for the job?
I cannot honestly say I am the best candidate for the job. I lack experience, but I do not lack
in passion for our country. I will not spend valuable time and energy on things like Twitter
tantrums but instead will focus on making our country more sustainable, inclusive, and having a
greater capacity to take care of the ones in need so everyone, not just the upper crust, can thrive.
I would begin by choosing cabinet members with ample experience to offset my lack of it. I
will make sure each is qualified and a leader in their field even if I dont have political ties with
them. I want someone for example like Senator Tom Harkin who is the chair of the Senate
Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee. He would relate to my political agenda by
sharing my passion for helping people with disabilities through our shared history of family
members with illnesses. I want a cabinet that adds to the collective knowledge instead of having
to start with the basics. I would trust their advice though I may not ultimately go with it.
I will make an executive order to repeal Trumps travel ban and and reinstate the our
previous commitment under Obama. I would also hope to increase it by 10% by the end of my
term. I will also make an executive order that puts bigger controls on the oil corporations to
executive order that will increase funding for schools and allow more programs for afterschool
activities.
I also would meet with the Japanese and Filipino president to talk about a greater unity than
we already have in order to curtail attacks from North Korea. I would meet with Mexico and
Canada to discuss NAFTA and renegotiate the deal to improve it on all sides. I would withdraw
the building of the wall between ourselves and Mexico, and penalize those companies and
individuals who hire illegal immigrants, unless they have require those employees to be working
What is your marketing strategy for getting the word out about you and your platform?
I am going to go to create a memorable sign that shows that shows patriotism with the blue
and red colors. I will prominently display my name with the tag Jenny Johnson - Give Everyone
A Voice. I will ask my supporter to put them in their yard. I created a sign enclosed. I will gain
sway through social media, rallies, and interacting with prominent people in Congress who can
I will first create a buzz through social media. On FB, I will write a few sentences with my
mission statement which is Jenny Johnson-Give Everyone A Voice. Jenny Johnson is the person
who will advocate for everyone. No one deserves to be silenced when each of us yearns to be
heard. She will fight for progressive change that will benefit those who require the most help. We
all need someone to fight for us. Lets advocate together. Those will have a greater sense of
campaign with captions like when you stop to save baby ducklings or something like voting
for me is better than getting a massage while eating ice cream. which will give me a greater pull
with the younger crowds. Even if they are too young to vote they will still create a dialog with
their parents. I will post pictures on Instagram of the campaign in a more thoughtful light. I will
show pictures of me at the capitol and interacting with politicians that support my causes.
I will spend around 5 million dollars on online campaigns. I do not believe in negative
campaigning, so I will spend a fifth of it on consultants to help me come up with effective ads
that appeal to a mass market. I want them to be funny and memorable while defending the issues
that I am passion about. It would probably be based on satire of my opponent which if I was the
democratic representative would be Donald Trump. I may also pay Alec Baldwin to come cameo
as Trump and make a commercial of him reading to poor children about saying goodbye to their
afterschool programs.
In all seriousness, I would make an ad with legitimate stats on how defunding critical
programs is negatively affecting the average American but then turn the dialog back towards how
I would change the nation. I will look at the Billboard Top 100 and choose a song for the
background that increases positive feelings. I could even use a commercial with people having to
walk around with tape over their mouths and towards the end, I will appear with my slogan to
Give Everyone A Voice. The last scene would be me approaching one of our underrepresented
communities and taking the tape off and saying, Go ahead. Im listening.
I spent another 5 on rallies where I came to talk about my views on how to make America
actually great again. I would go to the swing states and try to create a message that is something
everyone can relate to. I will make sure to talk to every demographic and age group and I will
create events accordingly. I would go to the lumberyards and the Empire State building because
