PREAMBLE

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to analog circuit design and
analysis. Basics of the semiconductor theory are covered, leading to transistor
functionality and analysis. Finally OPAMP as ICs that consist of several transistors
are studied. Their applications are also explored. It is expected that the student will
be able to apply the capabilities of OPAMS in circuits. Coupled with the relevant
laboratory experiments, the course is expected to provide the student with basic
tools of circuit construction

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this course are to:

Introduce students to transistors, enhancing their understanding by involving

the basic building blocks of transistors.
Edify students to identify OPAMP building blocks and connect these to the
functionality of the IC.
Equip students with the skills to analyse the flow of current in a transistor
circuit and appreciate the application of Kirchhoffs laws in the analysis of
transistor circuits.
Impart in students the knowledge of application of transistors and OPAMPS.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course, the student must be able to:

Understand the basic construction and functionality of diodes and transistors

based on the semiconductor theory.

Understand the principle of operation of the OPAMP.
Construct, analyse and debug analog circuits.
Design simple analog circuits
Apply OPAMPs in several circuits and understand their applications.

METHODOLOGY
