1. List three examples of personal satisfaction gained from this
experience. Answer 1: Throughout this experience I worked very long and hard to complete my project. This experience allowed me to gain a deep level of accomplishment. Among that I gained personal satisfaction from knowing that I helped others. A few people reached out to me following my assembly and thanked me for what I did. Lastly, I gained personal satisfaction from staying clean throughout the majority of this time. 2. What are the most important skills you have acquired during the project? Answer 2: During the project I acquired a vast set of skills. Most of these however were centered around my interactions with people. Never having to conduct an interview before, I learned how to do that. I also learned the important skill of public speaking. During the project I put together a research paper and organized an assembly which raised my writing and organizational skills. 3. How did your final project change from the goals you set in your proposal? Answer 3: My final project did change from the goals that I set in my proposal. Originally, I planned on putting together a documentary to get the harsh reality of substance abuse out to the community. However, as that was not possible I had to change my project into an assembly. 4. Describe very specifically how you strived to make your project the very best quality you could. Answer 4: Our senior project is one of the most important tasks that we have to accomplish in our high school career. To make sure that my project was the best quality I made sure to not procrastinate. I have a bad habit of doing so but for this project I managed my time very wisely. I would meet with my mentor when needed and email her if it wasnt possible to meet. We talked and planned the whole time making sure I met each goal. Instead of putting things off I really took the time and effort to get them done when they needed to be done. I was very active in this project and I think that is what allowed me to produce it with great quality. 5. How did you utilize time and resources to successfully complete your project? If you consulted with experts other than your mentor, how successful was your experience? Be specific. Answer 5: Throughout this experience I feel as though I managed time and resources well. The first quarter was a time in which I met with my mentor and gathered my thoughts and ideas. During the first quarter I met no roadblocks and successfully managed my time. Proceeding into the second quarter I carried out what needed to be done in a time efficient manner and stayed ahead of the game. My interviews were completed and I was regularly attending my meetings. Then for the third quarter I had to manage my time very wisely. At the end I did kind of cram into putting together final details and making sure everything was in order. But my poor time management was more in part related to the change in my project rather than my procrastination. 6. If given the opportunity to redo the project, what would you do differently? Answer 6: If given the opportunity to redo my project I think I would make sure the community was more involved. I tried to get the community involved as much as I could in hopes that maybe the drug problem would shrink. If I had more time and resources I would have reached out to bigger parts in the community and maybe hold yet another assembly. 7. What did you learn about yourself? Answer 7: Throughout this experience I learned a lot about myself. I found that I am more courageous than I once thought and I also learned that the life I had been leading wasnt the right life for me. The whole drug scene was not my scene and through this project I learned that it didnt have to be. I have become more of who I am and rekindled many relationships that had been severed due to drug abuse. It was a great learning experience for myself and it really helped me move forward in my steps. 8. List all academic expectations you achieved? Answer 8: One academic expectation I achieved was by using my english class, College Writing, to successfully prepare for and to write a research paper. Another academic expectation I achieved was using my civics class to learn how to really deliver a good presentation. 9. Describe a decision made or a problem encountered while working on the project. Answer 9: While working on the project I encountered quite a few problems. However the one that had the greatest impact on me was the negative support I was receiving from peers. It was a daily occurrence and really started to take a toll on me. Many people would reach out to me and call me a hypocrite, or a liar. Some would even have the nerve to tell me to overdose. These issues became more prevalent right before I hosted the assembly. This was a huge problem because I didnt even want to go forward with the project at this point. However, with the help of my mentor and all the other people that were a leading part in my project I got through it and still hosted the assembly.
10. Considering the work and effort that you put into your project how would you rate your final product? (Use a letter grade A+, A, A-, etc.) Justify why you chose this grade.
Grade: B
Justification: As a final grade I decided to give myself a B. I felt as though
that is a fair grade because I got all of my work done efficiently in a timely manner. There are some things I would like to go back and change hence the reason I dropped my grade to a B rather than higher.
