Big Money Fights to Block Marijuana Legalization.2016. Us Represent.us. 2/12/2017

https://act.represent.us/sign/marijuana

In the online article Big Money Fights to Block Marijuana Legalization the author discusses
the large role some of our everyday corporations play in the legalization process, for example
one company this article focuses on specifically is PhRMA (a major suppling pharmaceutical
company). As journalist Lee Fang states in the article Its more than a little odd that CADCA
and the other groups leading the fight against relaxing marijuana laws derive a significant portion
of their budget from opioid manufacturers and other pharmaceutical companies. The article
emphasizes that one of the main reasons Pharmaceutical companies spend money to lobby
against marijuana is due to the fact that. the use of medical marijuana could mean a decreased
need for expensive everyday pills such as Advil. In addition to discussing the pharmaceutical
companies interest in medical marijuana it is discussed that the alcohol industry could take a hit
as well due to people switching from alcohol to marijuana as it is a cheaper and safer alternative.
This article provides a good platform for writing a research paper because it discusses other
views of legalization rather than just the publics, however this article contains less statistics than
some of the other sources I have selected making it less beneficial.

This specific article from The Washington post the author discusses the
impact that medical marijuana is having in the states that have legalized, as
well as supporting and giving more
information on the pharmaceutical fight against marijuana, as mentioned in
my pervious source. This article in depth explains that in number of states
that have legalized there are far less prescriptions being prescribes among
those numbers nearly 1,400 less opioids were prescribed per state that had
legalized. Hence less overdoses. This article was very beneficial when writing
my research paper with its vast range of data that it offered, it helped me
prove a lot of the points I was trying to prove while adding factual
information and numbers to the readers, As The Washington Post states
theres was 17 states they had legalized in 2013 and together those states
saved an average of $165 million dollars means that if all 50 states were to
legalize we could save nearly half a billion dollars a year. This was one of my
favorite articles to read and source for my paper, it had good information and
facts compared to Big Money Fights Back to Block Marijuana Legalization.

Smith, Samantha. In Debate Over Legalizing Marijuana, Disagreement Over

Drugs Dangers. 14 Apr. 2015. Pew Research Center for the People and the
Press 2/13/2017 http://www.people-press.org/2015/04/14/in-debate-over-
legalizing-marijuana-disagreement-over-drugs-dangers

The article above discusses the changes of views in legalization over the last
ten years, as the article states the percentage of people that are pro
legalization has gone up nearly 20 percent in the last ten years bringing it to
nearly 53% of voters. Samantha conducted research for this article gathering
information who are both for and against the legalization of marijuana, the
answer among both parties tended to stay the same by group, for those who
did not believe in legalization, still beloved that it should be classified as a
drug due to its gateway properties, while those who were pro legalization
viewed its benefits. This article provided with a vast variety of information of
differing options as well as statistics making it a good resource for writing my
research paper, having that the author conducted the research herself I find
it to be a pretty reliable source of information. This in addition to all the great
statistics made it a great resource for writing a paper.
