When people say the word graffiti, everyone has a split opinion on whether it should be
considered as acceptable street art or vandalism. For example, Banksy is an anonymous graffiti
artist who is known as a political activist and film director. Banksys stencils work started to
captivate the audience with his combination of dark humor with graffiti. It created a sense of
expression because Banksy used public sceneries to spread his message across art, philosophy,
and politics. His artistic creations inspired beginning and advanced artists to explore ones
Regarding on how people reacted to Banksy graffiti work as impacting and symbolic,
graffiti can be seen as a positive piece of artwork being displayed to the public. People
judgements are manifested by cultural beliefs and environmental factor that contributes to their
personal judgements on graffiti. Blogs are essential use for the public to explore topic and create
discussion with reference to what may interest them. Coming across blogs that interpret graffiti
on being recognized as art took a toll on others who strongly settle graffiti as inappropriate
behavior. However, the definition of art is to express important ideas or feelings using
imagination and skills to create change in society opinion, values, and beliefs. From this
definition, we can acknowledge that graffiti gives the same references to art just like paintings,

sculptures, sketches, etc. Defending graffiti as a work of art because it expresses a message,
Art is a persuading tool used by artist to not only display a workpiece but to give
symbolism on a message being shared to the public. The meaning of art is elaborating the
creativities of ones idea and by that the artist creates many canvases to interpret its ideas.
Graffiti is generally growing around the world and are using current social or political issues to
validate the belief they must share with the public. Graffiti artist can have personal judgement
about a certain issue and creates public messages by freestyling their work. Having the art work
presented in a over populated area can create out roars of opinions. This gives a first exposure to
the public on trying to understand the message being reveal from the artist. Pieces of works of art
are started from an idea and expands to create a landscape with color, form, shape, shading, etc.
To understand the memo of the piece, we have to view the artistic values being shown in graffiti.
Graffiti has different types of design and style on creating an artistic visual presentation
which involves shapes and colors. Stencil is a quick and productive way to create a complicated
piece on display but in a short period. It is difficult to let the color rest without it turning into a
different form that the artist does not intend to have as a final piece. This type of graffiti artwork
can create images or text quickly and can be done repeatable. Another art form of graffiti is wild
style which is a complex but synchronized form of writing. Features includes curves, arrows,
spikes, and shadows that may not be easy to read. Some graffiti artist often includes three
dimensional shapes to create depths, not to showcase a flat figuring. Piece is short for
masterpiece and is known to be another example of graffiti styles. A piece involved with more
colors with great amount of time and effort put into the display. Graffiti artist typically gain more
respect on a piece because it is viewed as a more realistic form of art. These showcases of the

different styles of graffiti are important to recognize because it is not just one form of graffiti, but
categorizes. Each graffiti design is identified as its own form of art and are given titles.
Classifying various of graffiti work based on the color, writing, shape, form, can specify where it
can be acknowledged as for others understanding. Furthermore, these types of display are factors
Graffiti artists mainly expose their art work in public areas where society can view and
possibly change their outlook. Urban art is a style of art that relates to city life or the city itself
that is done by the artist who has a passion for the city he/she live in. The term urban means
from the city which comes from the Latin word urbanus. Graffiti is a raw form of urban art and
some of the earliest sighting of graffiti were founded in tribal inscriptions on stone hence. Many
different types of graffiti style have grown from public spaces in populated urban areas. For
example, New York has so much diversity that ideas can collated and create conflict regarding
any current social or political issues. Since the urban area is huge, many artist feel they can get
more response on their artwork based on the size of the city and the population of the area. New
York City is a large area with many free public places that can be used as canvas. Graffiti is
normally made on street walls because everyone can come across it whether it is walking down
the street or driving by. Graffiti work started on city streets, society is use to categorizing art
work to be seen in museum or art gallery. Being in a museum or art gallery is a formal
interpretation of different art style being acknowledge as work of art, if an art critic gives it ok
then society would follow appreciate it as well. Urban art has been growing in America cities and
major cities around the world because graffiti artists establish visual art form in urban areas.
This topic involves two distinguished opinions about graffiti and I am going to bring a
positive view on why graffiti should be considered as art. Society are easily influenced to see
Najera Perez 4
graffiti as a disturbance to the environment and do not understand why this presentation is out in
the open. By creating this argument, I will let my audience view the reasons why graffiti should
be seen as art. Graffiti is to be known as a writing or drawing just like how art is described to be,
so this idea matter because these two topics do not differ from each other. Graffiti can be
traditionally found in any public places so people are more prone to notice the art piece even if
One difficulty I would face is giving personal opinions instead of stating facts on viewing
graffiti as art. I do not want to mislead my audience on creating ideas from personal experiences,
it would be better for them to understand the main concept of my research. Convicting my
audience that graffiti is a public good and can be express as art is another challenge. One
rhetorical tool I should be aware of would be the word choices I imply in my research.
Considering what my research must say and how to say it can help my audience to create a
mental outline on what my point of view is. My purpose is for someone to understand, believe,
and agree with the positon I stand in for my argument. The technique of using language
effectively will demonstrate my understanding of the topic and hopefully the understanding of
the audience. If the message is not clear than my research can be seen as a persuading essay.
Viewers will perhaps see my research essay as a wordy orientation or trickery and that would not
demonstrate an academic disciple. The whole point of an argument is to state the claim and to
needs to have a clear understanding of the purpose behind my research. I hope to construct an
argumentative essay with excellent examples, good grammar, and enough information necessary
to captivate my audience attention. It is important to show my audience that graffiti should not

always be viewed as vandalizing property, but as an expression of ideas. Graffiti artists have the
freedom to exploit their ideas with consideration of where they place their works of art. The
audience should out aside biased and have an open mind set on the argument given. The
audience should care about the different attributes art has and how those attributes correlates
