SLA
LESSON PLAN
Class : 9th grade
Topics : Story telling (Pronunciation and Intonation)

1. The teacher gives warming up to the students by asking some questions, eg:have you ever
been told about a legend?, has someone ever told you a folklore?, have you ever
watched a story telling?, or etc. (Active learning)
2. The teacher shows a video of story telling performed by a native speaker (Meaningful
learning: the environmental support for the internal processes of learning). The
students watch and listen to it carefully (Active learning: this activities enables the
students to form hypotheses and develop intellectually. The students explore the
world through their senses: sight and sound).
3. After watching the video, the teacher asks the students some questions about the story. This
step will build both student-teacher and student-student interactions (Active learning: it
involves problem solving skills and intelligence).
4. The teacher distributes the copies of story to the students. There is a glossary in the story
transcript so that the students will easily understand the story. (Meaningful learning)
5. The teacher retells the story sentence by sentence. He does not only reads, but also does the
story telling using his facial expression and gestures. The students are assigned to repeat
after him (Active learning: There is mental processes such knowing when the students
were asked to repeat the teacher. They know how to speak correctly).
6. The teacher assigns the students to practice the story telling by themselves for 20 miutes
(Active learning: This activity focuses on the inner mental activities. It is about
creativity, using the mind creatively. They develop both logical and abstract thinking).
The students work in pairs (Meaningful learning: There are social interactions in which
the students worked with their peers and a mentor to solve problems and that
cognitive development could only be understood if you took cultural and social
context into account). They may use their gadgets to look up some difficult words in the
dictionary or find the pronunciation of some words (Active learning: It requiresactive
participation from students). Then, when the first students practice, the partners
watches, listen carefully and takes some notes about their constructive comments for their
partners (Meaningful learning:The learner should be encouraged to learn from each
other). The teacher controls the class by walking around, asking the students if they find
difficulties or not, and so on (Active learning: The teacher facilitates and supports the
internal processes of the various learners in the classroom. The teachers foster learning,
independence, and growth among students. The teacher takes time to understand each
child).
7. The teacher calls on 5 students to perform the story telling in front of the class. It is not
scored. It is just to check how well they learn.
8. The teacher giveschance to other students to give constructive comments for the students
who have performed. Then, the teachers also gives feedback for the performers (Active
Learning: There is reinforcement activities).
9. The teacher assigns the students to practice at home since the next meeting the teacher will
score their story telling performance. They have to record their story telling many times to
check their pronunciation and intonation mistakes(Active Learning: Failure may be
considered a good thing as it is a toll to help learners realize that they need to learn
more). The first and the last recording should be submitted and they will be scored too.
10. The teacher gives the students chance to explore the story, the gesture, and the property to
support their performance (Meaningful Learning: The teacher creates a learning
environment that encourages students to do their best and makes learning interesting. The
teacher understands the value of academic tasks and the effort needed to complete those
tasks can motivate students to perform better in the classroom environment).
11. The best 3 performance will get stars, 3 stars for the first, 2 for the second, and 1 for the
third. This stars will be sticked on the star board. Each stars on the board represents the
additional point each student will get at the end of the semester. (Meaningful Learning:
the teachers should be concerned with the process of learning rather than the end
product. The implication of behaviorist theory in this learning is that thestudents are
rewarded for successful answer/performance)
