denomination.Itsmainplaceofworship,theWestAngelesCathedral,is
locatedintheWestAdamsHistoricDistrictofLosAngeles,California.

ItwasfoundedbyElderClarenceE.Churchin1943.Thefirstsanctuary
waslocatedonAdamsBoulevard,nearInterstate10(knownlocallyas
TheNorthCampus,2011
theSantaMonicaFreeway).In1969afterElderChurch'sdeath,Charles
E.Blake,asonofapastorandanativeofLittleRock,Arkansas,took
overasthepastorofWestAngelesandhascontinuedtoserveasitsleader.BlakeisnowthecurrentPresiding
BishopoftheChurchofGodinChristdenomination.[1]

UnderBlake'sleadership,thechurchhasgrownfrom40memberstoover24,000.Thesanctuaryhasmoved
twice,firsttoa1,000seatfacility(todaycalledtheNorthCampus)locatedat3045CrenshawBoulevard,and
thentothepresentstructure,the5,000seatWestAngelesCathedralat3600CrenshawBoulevard.The
Cathedral,builtfromsteel,graniteandstainedglass,wasdedicatedin1999.[2]

"WestA"isknownforbothitsinfluentialpastor,dynamiccityministriesandforitscelebritymembers,which
includeMagicJohnson,NatalieCole,DenzelWashington,[3]StevieWonder,MichelleShocked,andAngela
Bassett.
