Mars One. "Mission Feasibility - Mission." Mars One. N.p., 2017. Web. 11 Feb. 2017.

This source is from a private company called Mars One. Their goal is, to establish a

permanent human settlement on Mars by sending around 100 applicants/soon-to-be

astronauts on a one-way trip in the late 2020s. They are very pro-space exploration and

believe that we have all the current technology needed to travel to Mars and sustain

human life there. Even though they state that interstellar travel is possible, Mars One

does not own any spacecrafts and has not traveled into space. Many have also argued

that Mars One may not be as legitimate as they claim, even though the company says

otherwise.

NASA. "NASA's Journey to Mars." NASA. NASA, 1 Dec. 2014. Web. 13 Feb. 2017.

NASA, or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is a U.S. government

entity that is responsible for the U.S. science and technology arm surrounding airplanes

and space. It was founded in 1958 and is funded completely by taxpayers money. In

1969, NASA sent three men to the moon and are planning to send humans to an asteroid

by 2025 and Mars in the 2030s. They currently have rovers exploring Mars and
returning samples and information which will help to plan for the first human trip to

Mars.

Walker, Robert. "Ten Reasons NOT To Live On Mars - Great Place To Explore." Science 2.0.

N.p., 15 Aug. 2015. Web. 13 Feb. 2017.

This article argues that traveling to Mars and creating a colony there is a bad idea and

should not be our primary focus. The writer states, Space colonies and the poles of the

Moon, are both more easily habitable than Mars, and more easy to make self sufficient

and points out that the most extreme locales on earth are much more hospitable that

anywhere else in the solar system, including Mars. Throughout the piece, it is reasoned

that while Mars might be able to sustain life in the right conditions, the drawbacks far

outweigh any potential positives. Some of the arguments made are about the intense

cold, lack of atmosphere, and high probability of disaster.

Woolf, Nicky. "SpaceX founder Elon Musk plans to get humans to Mars in six years." The

Guardian. Guardian News and Media, 28 Sept. 2016. Web. 12 Feb. 2017.

This piece is about the company SpaceX and the founder, Elon Musk, and his plan to take

humans to Mars as early as 2022. SpaceX currently works with NASA in delivering

cargo and supplies to the International Space Station and has a total of 3 working space

rockets. They have quickly become a viable company and have done so in a short

amount of time as it was only founded in 2002. The article stresses the importance that

Elon Musk sees in interplanetary travel by quoting him saying, The reason I am

personally accruing assets is to fund this. I really have no other purpose than to make life

interplanetary.
