Management Plan

This management plan template has been designed to guide your thinking. As part of Topic 5 you are asked to create a draft management plan
in readiness for your teaching experience. Use the readings and resources (e.g. Micro skills Booklet; Illustrations of Practice) to inform the
development of this plan.

Learn as much as you can about your school and classroom

What are the policies related to classroom and behaviour management?

There is a three step process to managing negative behaviour; the students are given warnings and if this does not help rectify the behaviour
students are given a time out, it is crucial to sort out any issues in this time out if possible because if the behaviour continues, students are then
sent to their buddy classroom and as a result are given a detention.
Rewarding positive behaviour is done through a ticketing system; learner, respectful and safe tickets are handed out to students who have
been recognised for behaving in a positive way in relation to one of the three areas mentioned above. These names then go into a box and get
drawn out at the weekly parade (assembly).
CHARTS:
Whole class;
Ready To Learn -> Make Better Choices -> Think About It -> Buddy Class
Class Volume;
Outside Voice -> Inside Voice -> Whisper Voice -> No Voice

What are the school and classroom rules?

The school has three main areas of behaviour; I am Safe, I am Respectful, I am a Learner. These then have three areas each; learning areas,
before and after school and break time. Within each, there are a number of points that must be followed by the student to qualify as either safe,
respectful or a learner.

How does your school deal with bullying?

Bullying is dealt with through the same process as any other negative behaviour. Minor cases are dealt with through timeouts and detentions
and major cases are dealt with through an instant office referral.

Draw a floor plan for your classroom (or one of your classrooms)

See attached

Is there arranged seating? If so what are the reasons for the seating?

There is arranged seating in my classroom it is set up so that the two age groups are sitting separately. There are two tables of Year 1s and
one table of Preps. With the exclusion of one Prep student who is seated with the Year 1 students.

Where are the resources located?

Resources are located around the classroom in accessible places for students. All work books are placed away in cupboards, and other
resources are packed away in tubs and crates so although the classroom looks busy, at the same time it is always looking neat and tidy.

What is your daily / weekly timetable?

See attached timetable.

What do you know about your students?

There are four students in my class that identify as Indigenous, one student who is sitting on the boarder of being Intellectually Impaired (was
tested and only just passed) and one student who is in the process of being diagnosed as Autistic.
One female Prep student has severe behavioural issues that run in the family (her two older brothers attend the school and have behavioural
problems) and who is constantly in detention or being sent to the buddy class.

Gather information about their learning needs and their personal interests as this will help your management of the classroom.

The majority of students in the classroom are happy to learn independently, there are a few that do need to be encouraged though and
constantly monitored.
Arthur has a personal goal that requires him to interact more with other students, as he was spending the majority of his time alone in class and
in the playground.

What activities do you have to extend those students who finish their work quickly?

For writing activities students are encouraged to draw pictures of what they have written, or write an extra sentence. There are also activities
around the classroom that can be easily accessed for those students continuously finishing work early.

What strategies does your teacher/s use to engage and manage the students?

There are a number of attention grabbers that are used in the classroom some examples are; T: Hands on top S: Everybody Stop, The
teacher tapping her hands on her head, shoulders, elbows and knees in different orders and waiting until all the students have stopped what
they are doing and following the movements. The teacher has put in a lot of effort to get the students to where they are performing at today, and
it is obvious that a lot of work has been put in to get students working at this level.
