Lesson Title: History using Naming the Georgia Regions

Inspiration

Grade Level: 8

Subject: Georgia History

Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives
CC/GPSs: Which of the GPSs or QCCs align with the curriculum and your specific
lesson?
SS8G1 The student will describe Georgia with regard to physical
features and location.
Locate Georgia in relation to region, nation, continent, and
hemispheres.
Describe the five geographic regions of Georgia; include the
Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge, Appalachian Plateau,
Piedmont, and Coastal Plain
National Technology Which technology standard(s) are you addressing in this activity? (See
Standards: the NETs-S standards in Week 3)

Georgia Regions Song

Long-Term Learning At the end of this unit of curriculum, what is it that you want your
Goal or Outcome: students to learn?

I want my students to be able to identify Georgia on a map as well

as list the key regions of our state.

ABCD Objectives or With your learners characteristics in mind, take the standards written
Outcomes: above and rewrite them using the Audience Behavior Condition Degree
method. Note: You will need to break down the GPSs into several
objectives.
A. Audience: 8th grade Georgia History students
B. Behavior: Should be able to describe the regions of
Georgia as well as its location
C. Condition: Given a map of the state
D. Degree: without error

Description of Assessment
Assessment Plan: What evidence do you have of students understanding? How will know
that they have met the objectives above?

I will give them a blank map of Georgia and have them fill out the
actual map; on the back I will have questions pertaining to the
region, country, hemisphere, etc.

Description of Activities with Technology and Materials

Activity Design:
Plan to create curricula that includes diverse and
multiple perspectives.
Class starter and lesson connection:
How will you get the students attention and
motivate them?
I will hope to motivate them using catchy
information and mnemonic devices.
According to the NETs-S I should use a song
to help catch their attention.

Teacher and student activities: What will you do/say or have the students do/say
in order to connect this lesson with the previous
one or build on prior knowledge?

I found a song that address the different

habitats in Georgia that should have been
learned previously we can review what they
know and go from there.

Describe the activities in which you and the

students will engage. Be a "fly on the wall" and
describe in detail what is going on in your
classroom.
Technology Connection:
I can show them the video, then I will pull up
a map of the state, and describe the different
regions to them. After that I can hand out a
blank sheet and have them fill in the map and
draw something on the map that will help
them remember the region.

Describe the strategies you will use.

I will try to actively engage them by giving

them the blank map as well as engaging them
with the activity by providing a blank map for
them to fill in, within reason, as they please.

Do you need to provide direct instruction? If so,

describe it.

Materials and Resources: Yes I will describe the regions to them and
give background facts, and I will also direct
them on what to do with their blank sheet of
papers.

Will you facilitate the lesson? If so, describe your

approach.
I will facilitate the lesson using multimedia
and lecture methods.

Will students work independently, with a partner

or in groups? Describe.

The students will work independently to

create their own map; they can reference the
example on the board or raise their hands if
they need any assistance.

What strategies, materials, etc. are you using to

teach children with exceptionalities?
I will be using a blank Georgia map as well as
the smartboard.
Which technology will support the lesson? List
the technology, software, URLs, etc. that you
and/or the students will use. Describe the
technology integration strategies you will use.

I will use the smartboard as well as google

maps so we can look at Georgia from a global
perspective and shrink down to a local
perspective.

List any handouts, books, equipment, media, etc.

that you will use to support your lesson.

I will use a hand out for each student.

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions : Answer the following questions:

Explain how you incorporated information from

the chapter and D2L modules into this lesson
plan.

I incorporated different lessons from how to

make ABCD plans as well as NETS-S.

After considering this lesson plan, what will you

do differently when you design the next lesson in
light of your new understandings?

I think I will make it more engaging for the

students and hopefully bring in an element of
partnership

Or, if you had more time/resources, etc., how

would you change the lesson and/or technology
artifact?

How does your technology artifact showcase

design principles?

How does your technology artifact require

student use of higher order thinking skills?
The have to identify and place the map on their
own.

How does the technology in your lesson align to

the content you are trying to teach in your
lesson?

It shows the Georgia Map and that aligns with

the standard of children identifying the
regions of Georgia as well as Georgia on a
larger scale.
