The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development


workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Leah Benson who attended the following seminars during the months of January-
March 2017.

Jeffrey MacCormack: Morphological Instruction in the Classroom


Any idea what morphological instruction means? This session will introduce students to the dynamic
world of teaching morphological instruction in the classroom, alongside providing student teacher with a
multitude of tools and techniques that they can implement in their own classrooms.

Wayne Tate: Insights to Hutterite Colony School Teaching


Ever wondered what it would be like to teach on a Hutterite Colony? Join Wayne in this instructional
session all about the teaching profession within the realm of a Hutterite Colony.

ATA: PRISM: Professionals Respecting Individualized Sexual Minorities


This workshop supports school leaders and teachers to understand the issues of gender and sexual
minority individuals, develop strategies to build an inclusive school community (elementary and
secondary) and establish and support the operation of a gay-straight alliance upon student request.

ATA: Here Comes Everybody: Welcome to a Multicultural Classroom


As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, our school communities continue to reflect the
increasing diversity of our society in terms of culture, ethnicity, language, race, colour sexual orientation,
gender identity, religion and other characteristics. This session was designed to assist teachers in adapting
their practice to these school communities.

Danny Balderson: Teaching Effective Physical Education


Love PE? Hate PE? Ever wondered what it would be like to teach PE? This session will provide students
the necessary supports to feel comfortable in teaching PE.

Doug Checkley: Working with ELL Refugee Students


With the current increase in immigrant ELL students to Alberta, there is no better time for this session.
Join Doug in learning/discussing all about appropriate and effective techniques when working with ELL
refugee students in any classroom setting.

Aaron Stout: Highschool Redesign


A move towards preparing students to be active, engaged and successful participants in an increasingly
knowledge-based and globalized society is a step many Alberta High schools are taking. Join Aaron in
discussing what Highschool Redesign stands for, and how it hopes to revolutionize our teaching practices.
Danny Balderson: Extra Curricular Activities
Becoming involved in extra curricular activities within a school can be crucial for any practicum student.
Join us in discussing ways to become involved in your schools extra curricular lifestyle, alongside
reviewing the various resources that are available to you.

Ann McCallum: Supporting Unique Needs in the Classroom: Words from a Learning Support
Teacher
We welcoming you in joining us to learn abut what it means to be an LST and how we, as teachers, can
better support the needs of our struggling students.
