Out in The Fields Gary Moore

Rhythm The rhythm is very regular and is 4/4 throughout. But during the
bridge the rhythm pattern changes especially with the guitar and drums
while still keeping it in 4/4.

Melody there is a 16 bar guitar melody as the intro, it is actually a 8 bar

sequence being repeated again. It uses a good use of string bends and
vibrato and also using a Floyd rose tremolo system. The first singer is a
black singer (Phil Lynott) and has a good tenor voice. He has a very
flowing melody with the first line he sings. He then repeats the melody as
he sings as the second line. The second singer (Gary Moore) has a higher
voice singer it in a higher register and uses more falling chromatic notes
unlike the first singer. He sings 2 separate lines. Then comes the chorus
where Gary sings a repeated melody 3 times and a t the end of the chorus
there is a short musical phrase where he uses a lot of vibrato. The melody
is very catchy. but may have some difficulty due to the amount of vibrato.
the melody is repeated on the keys. Then it comes back in with the guitar
intro but just for 8 bars. There is a bridge of Gary singing a different
phrase for 3 times with a good use of vibrato in his voice at the end. There
is then a guitar solo for 16 bars. Where prior to this Gary leads to the
guitar solo by holding a note and using the Floyd rose wammy bar to put
an accent on it on the pulse of the music getting faster. In the guitar solo
there are a lot of use of hammer ons and pull offs. And quick staccato run
downs with also a good use in string bends. After that they sing the chorus
again with an extra 8 bars and that is it. The hook of the song in my
opinion would either be the intro as it is repeated throughout and there is
the chorus which is easy to sing back and is catchy.

Harmony under the guitar solo intro there is a chord sequence. During
Phils part there is just the bassline playing the root note of the chords of
the verse. Chords then change when Gary comes in suiting his melody
very well. They Harmonise the melody in the chorus with another set of
vocal with an octave higher in some parts. With also peoples saying
phrases during the chorus like the word out with also guitar and
keyboards underneath it. When its just Gary singing a line there is a
synthesiser playing his phrase with him creating a nice effect. In the
bridge there is a vocal melody and an underlying guitar melody with
guitar chords. And guitar chords are playing during the solo too. There are
minor harmonies and there are no clashes and no dissonance either.

Tonality it is mainly in D minor but in the outro it switches.

Timbre it uses drums that have a loud powerful sound giving the pulse of
the music. There are 2 guitars used both with distortion. One of them
makes use of the Floyd rose tremolo for a good melodic affect. Phils vocals
are quiet and soft while Gary are loud and powerful, almost like shouting
especially coming up to the chorus.

Texture it has mainly a homophonic texture but changes to polyphonic

especially during the chorus and bridge.

Dynamics it is mainly mezzo forte especially during Garys singing but

they sing the chorus more quiet after the solo. But the song is forte
overall.

Tempo it has a moderato tempo throughout the piece and barely ever
changes accept during the bridge where the tempo of the rhythm guitar
changes.

Articulation - it changes to A major in the last part of the last chorus and
also the outro.

Time signature its I 4/4 the whole way through it dont use any
compound time signatures and is regular.

Syncopation there is syncopation especial during the bridge especially

during the second beat of each bar.

BPM it has 120 BPM

Style of music it is mainly Rock music made by Gary Moore famous for
its distorted guitar and heavy vocals. Made famous in the western world.

Sonic Components

Mixing it has been mixed very well, all the mixed are clearly heard. It
also has been panned nicely with the lead guitar mainly towards the left
and rhythm towards the right. While the mainly melody and drums are
towards the center like a traditional concert if you was going to see him
play live. The instruments wouldnt need to be noise gated because they
used multitrack recording.

Clarity the instruments are very crisp in how they sound and nothing is
distorted accept the guitar which was done on purpose to get the heavy
effect.

Boosts they boost the guitar especially during the guitar into and the
solo to show how that is the main melody line during that part of the song
and giving that impression of look at me and how amazing I am playing.

Cut the lead guitar was cut during the bridge to bring the gain output
down so people can focus on the vocal melody while also listening to the
leading giving it a layered polyphonic effect.
Masking You can hear no white noise so it was masked well.

Balanced for its style it is balanced well for its style because you can
hear more guitar, vocals and drums in the mix which is typical for the rock
genre and how it is panned like you are seeing a rock band live on stage.

Words never used note values, tempo markings I thought that a dpm
were the same., blend, depth of sound field. Eq I thought that and
adjusting the volumes were the same.
