Pocket Money
This year teenagers in the UK are receiving less pocket money than they got last year,
but it's still more than most other Europeans receive. The average amount is 8.00
pounds (about 12 Euros) a week, with teenagers in London getting the most, at 12.00
pounds, and those in Wales the least - that's half the quantity of teenagers in
London. Many teenagers have to 'earn' their pocket money by doing chores such as
washing up, cooking, washing the car, or food-shopping, because their parents want
them to learn the value of money. They normally receive a fixed amount every week.
However, not all parents agree with giving their children pocket money, even if they
help with the housework. Tim Gillbanks, who teaches in York, says: 'If I gave my kids
pocket money they would just spend it all without thinking. In my opinion, they
should get a part-time job and earn it themselves. I'd be happier with that, if it didn't
disrupt their studies.'
In fact, nearly 30 percent of teenagers have part-time jobs because they feel they don't
get enough money from their parents. Many do paper-rounds and shop-work, and
some older girls make money from babysitting.
So what do teenagers spend their money on? Mobile phones, DVDs and computer
games are at the top of the list. Parents often think that their children spend too
much, but maybe they shouldn't worry, because because banks say over 50 percent of
teenagers save more money than they spend!

Im a sophomore in high school right now. Im currently taking seven classes and participating in
cheerleading and band. I have no study period during the day because I chose to have three electives.
Well, between all of my activities, homework, and social life, Im having a lot of trouble managing my
time. Recently, I have made bad time-managing decisions, resulting in an incomplete assignment and
loss of sleep. What Im getting at is this: should I dropped one of my three electives and take a study
hall instead to better manage my time and schedule? My mom said not to make any hasty decisions
and see how I do the rest of this week. She told me that having lots of stressful, demanding things all
at once is a part of life and I shouldnt make my decision yet. I do think she has a good point. What do
you think I should do about my situation?

Okay so I just started 7th grade at a new school. I was soooo nervous about it. But it really wasnt that
bad. Except, there is this girl who typically HATES me. I dont know why though! I am just the new shy
girl who doesnt talk. She embarrasses me all the time. And I dont do anything to her! Shes vicious!
Even though were in seventh grade. I never did anything to her but she just tries to ruin me. It makes
me so mad and Im always depressed now. When I never was... Hating myself because of another girl.

My favourite means of transport is a bicycle. I like travelling by bike

because it is the healthiest and less polluting means of transport. If
you ride a bike there are some advantages. First, it is healthier you
practise sport and it helps you keeping fit . Second, it is less
expensive than travelling by public transport or by car . Third, you
avoid traffic jams and you overpass pedestrians and cars.
If you ride a bike you also have some disadvantages too. First, in winter you get frozen,

to use public transport or walk. Although bikes are comfortable and help keeping a clean
