Technology Enhanced Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Foundations of Social Studies: Families

Context: The lesson is created so that the students get a understanding of government and

influences the lives of individuals and families as well as the community at large. The prior

lesson explains how the families interact with their environment both locally and globally and

then it leads into the government and families.

Objectives: Government influences the lives of individuals and families as well as the

community at large. They will participate effectively in civic life through an understanding of

governmental processes

Standards: 1-2.1 Explain the making and enforcing of laws as a basic function of government

1-2.2 Summarize the concept of authority and give examples of people in authority, including

school officials, public safety officers, and government officials. 1-2.3 Illustrate ways that

government affects the lives of individuals and families, including taxation that provides services

such as public education and health, roads, and security

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes): I will first get the students together in the classroom and get them

seated. I will then explain to them as to what is going to happen in the classroom and the lesson

plan for that day. The students are going to break off into groups and they will be placed into

three stations of the classroom where they will have different tasks to do at the three stations. In

the three sections, they will work with the teacher in one group, work with each other in another

group, and work independently with the last group.

Working with the teacher (15 minutes): the first group will be with me and we will watch a

short video about the government and families. After watching the video I will have the students

take five minutes to discuss what they learned and have them to list what government and their

family means to them. I will have them create a chart and state things that they know on one

side, what they may want to learn, and after discsuuionf the topic write down somethings they

did not know before doing the activirty.

Collaborative (30 minutes): In the second group, they will look at the laws that deal with

government in South Carolina. I will give them a big white piece of paper and they will come up

with different laws that they think would be influential to them and their families. the students

will be working together to create their own government laws and they will be able to hang

them up in the classroom.

Independent Work (30 minutes): The third group will be doing independent work. I will have

them to watch two short videos of what government is on the computer individually. They will

also play a game that Once they finish watching the video, I will have them to draw a picture of

their family and their community.

Closing (7 Minutes): I will have tthe students come back tohgether and we will do like a show

and tell to show everyone what they did. We will discuss the things that they leanrned and the

things they did not know about. I will have them state things that they did not know about

government and how it affects their life and their family and communities lives.

Rationale:

Youtube: The video on youtube will help explain what government is and how it affects

everyones family and communities. The video will help the children to understand what its like

in governemnt in a way.
