Students name: Hudson
= Smart but not working up to
potential. Participates in most class discussions staying
on topic and adding positively to the discussion. Reads
fluently.

Students name: Margot = Struggles a lot but works

very hard. Pays attention to all instruction and always
does her best. Has improved tremendously in math and
reading.

Students name: Lucy = Excellent student with

behavior and academics. Always has something to
positively add to a class discussion. Such a joy to have in
class.
Classroom Guidelines:

1. Be a good listener
2. Be respectful
3. Keep your hands to yourself
4. Follow directions
5. Be safe

I would like to have these five rules be the main rules in

my future classroom. I think on the first day of school it
would be a good class builder to have the students
brainstorm rules themselves. I can then take what they
say and put them into the broad categories that these
five rules cover. I think this is important for students to do
so they feel a sense of responsibility when following the
rules. And if they break them and then claim a rule is
unfair, I can remind them that their classmates and
themselves came up with these rules. That way the
students have created their own rules, shown ownership
for them, and by doing that theyve defined what each of
these five rules means.
1. Be a good listener

2. Be respectful

3. Keep your hands to

yourself

4. Follow directions

5. Be safe
Rewards and Incentives:
In my classroom, I would have a treasure box as an
incentive/reward. It would contain little things like
erasers, pencils, candy, markers, etc. I would explain that
our class treasure box was not something that would be
visited often. It is reserved for when students go above
and beyond what is expected of them. For example,
writing a whole paragraph when only asked for one
sentence or thinking outside the box during a class
discussion. At the beginning of the year I would reward
more often than towards the end of the year to motivate
students to go above and beyond. I would also stress that
this is not something they can ask for. If they ask for a
reward, they will not receive one. They should always
strive to do their best and if they get a reward for it great,
if not then thats okay too. They will always have another
chance.
One other incentive that I have seen in my internship
that I want to use in my future classroom is play-dough
time. When the students do their best and completely
finish their work as a class, if we have time left before
lunch or recess, they are allowed to play with play-dough.
They each have one in their desk and it has to last them
all year. This is great because it is something they can
strive to earn by doing their best and completing their
work and it works on their fine motor skills.
Consequences:
1. Blurting out thoughts/answers during instruction time
or while another student is talking
2. Throwing pencils, crayons, paper, etc. in the
classroom.
3. Being hurtful or rude to another person, adult or
peer.
4. Talking during independent work time, instruction
time, or other non-designated talking times.
5. Hitting, kicking, punching, pushing, or physically
hurting another person.

In my classroom I would like to have some sort of card

system. If you break a rule or have an undesired behavior
I think the consequence should be to pull a card. The first
pull is a warning. The second pull is 5 minutes of walking
at recess. The third pull is 10 minutes of walking at
recess. The fourth pull is a call home and a visit with the
principal.
I think it is very important though to have this system
in a place in the classroom where not everyone can see
it. People visiting the classroom will not be able to see it if
they do not know it is there. I also would assign each
student a number and put that number on the cards that
way no one know whose card is whose so they do not
know who had pulled a card that day.
I think this is a good consequence system because it
gives the students a punishment without humiliating
them. They know they broke a rule and they know the
consequence for breaking it. From my experience Ive
seen that most of the time, the students will not break
that rule again. There are always cases where this
doesnt work and a conversation is necessary.
Procedures:

1. Lining up procedure:
Remain in seat quietly until dismissed to line up
Helper of the day is the line leader
I will then dismiss the students who that the cleanest
desk and are the quietest
Line up at the door and keep a bubble in your mouth
After everyone is lined up I will tell you when we can
open the door and walk to our destination
Last person in line shuts the door and turns the lights
of

2. Taking roll and lunch count

When you enter the room in the morning, after you
put your backpack away and turn in your homework,
go to the white board and move your magnet from
the middle zone.
There will be two options, school lunch or brought
lunch from home.
Only move your magnet. If one of our classmates is
not there that day their magnet will stay in the
middle zone and thats how I know who is here and
who is not.

3. Restroom
We will take bathroom breaks throughout the day.
If it is an emergency and you cannot hold it any
longer, you may raise your hand with three fingers
up.
I will give you a nod when I see your hand and then
you may quickly use the restroom.

4. Sharpening pencils
Each morning after moving your lunch magnet,
sharpen two pencils.
This will be the only time throughout the day you are
allowed to use the pencil sharpener.
If you break both your pencils you can borrow one
from the classroom bin.

5. When you finish your work before the whole class is

done
Place your work in the bin at the back of the room.
You may then quietly either read your library book or
work on an activity from the bin.

6. Handing in papers
For independent work you will turn in papers at the
back of the room
For whole class work you will pass papers to the end
of the row and I will pick them up

7. Morning routine
In the mornings enter the classroom quietly.
Put your backpack and coat on the back of your
chair.
Turn in your homework to the bin in the back of the
room.
Go to the board and move your magnet to your lunch
preference (brought your own or school lunch).
Sharpen two pencils
Complete morning work at your desk quietly.

Policies:
One policy I plan to have in my future classroom is
that all papers that the students turn in should have their
name in date somewhere on the top of the paper where I
can see it. It needs to be neatly written so I can read it. If
there is no name or date on the paper I will not accept it.
They will get another chance to put their name and date
on the paper though.
Another policy I plan to have in my future classroom
is a strict no bullying policy. We are all friends in our
school. If a student is saying hurtful things to you or
physically hurting you I would like you to report it to me
and we will figure out a plan of action to solve this.
A third policy I plan to have in my future classroom is
regarding indoor recess. The first rule of indoor recess will
be if you get a game out, you must put it away before
playing another game. The second rule is for everyone to
use his or her quiet voices when playing. If it gets too
loud I will shut the lights of once as a warning. The
second time I shut the lights of there will be no talking
for 5 minutes of indoor recess. The third time I shut the
lights of there will be no talking for the rest of indoor
recess. The third rule is when it is time to clean up
everyone helps. Even if you did not play that game you
can help your classmates clean it up.

Classroom Design:
Preventative Maintenance:
If a student is labeled as below grade level by their
prior teacher I will look at my first lesson plans and create
plans to guide and provide more assistance for this
student.
If students do not understand the lesson I will
reteach that concept to them using a diferent than the
first time. I can also plan ahead in my lesson and have a
back up plan created if I know the students might
struggle with the lesson. I wont always know, but I will be
prepared when I do.
If I know two students are talkative I will not sit them
by each other when creating a seating chart.
