Safety plan
Safety is one of the most important things while dealing with a project. We have
to assess all the risks associated with the project and find out a solution for that.
This document deals with the construction, design and testing of the project. The
3 stages of risk and hazards for the Mars rover.
Hazard identification
The accompanying can be characterized or clarified as:
Design Specification

1.0 Introduction
All of the materials and tools can be found in Bunnings Warehouse. It is recommended, where
applicable that recycled materials be used to cut down on cost to make this as cost- effective as
possible. Listed below is the required steps and procedures to build the Mars rover as well as
all the materials, tools and costs required to create it.
For the construction of this rover, the following materials are required:
Electrical Jigsaw
Drill Machine
Hammer
Philips head screw driver
Scissor
Pliers
Ruler
Pencil, pen and permanent marker
19
B) Next, cut the length marked in step 4.1a) using an electric jigsaw. Maintain a straight line
of action using the pen or pencil markings as an accurate guide.
C) Lastly, use an 80 to 150 grit sandpaper to smoothen out any sharp edges or rough cuts to
reduce the risk of injury. This can be done by moving the sandpaper horizontally back and
forth against the area required for treatment.
20
B) Next, to make the wheel axles (AB1-4), measure, using a ruler 25mm in length of the
tube and mark the length with a permanent marker.
C) From the marking in the previous step, cut the tube using a saw. This can be done by
placing the tube on a hard surface such as a brick. Try to make a clean, straight cut by
making sure the force is being applied as vertical as possible.
D) Any rough edges left may be smoothened by using 80- 150 grit sandpaper as used in
4.1c). Repeat steps 4.2b) to 4.2d) for the remaining axles or bearings (AB2-4).
E) Lastly, use pliers to hold the axle or bearing (AB1) firmly into place but do not press too
hard so the tube cracks. Use a Philips head screw driver and tighten the screw (S1) used in
4.2a) with the washer through the bearing. Tighten until the washer is no longer able to
move freely. Repeat this step (4.2e) for the remaining screws (S2-4) and axles or bearings
(AB2-4).
B) Place one of the wheels (W1) on any side of the chassis where the pen or pencil markings
were just made in step 4.3a). Position the edge of the wheel (W1) to be roughly the same as
the end of the main chassis. To help with this it would be recommended to use a ruler
placed vertically at the end of the main chassis (MC) and use it as a guide until the edge of
21
the wheel (W1) touches the ruler. Use a pen to mark the inside of the wheel (W1) where
the screws will be drilled.
C) While still holding the wheel (W1) in place, drill the screw (S1) that was assembled in
step 4.2e) inside the wheel (W1) until the wheel is loosely in contact with the side of the
chassis (MC) and the washer (WS1). If there is a little wobble with the wheels that is
completely normal and is part of the design. Repeat steps 4.3b) to 4.3c) for the remaining
wheels (W2-W4) and the other edges of the chassis.
*At this stage you have now constructed the Mars Rover*
B) Fasten the pull ties so that the water bottle is no longer able to move and is firmly in
place. Using scissors, cut any excess cord but leave approximately 7cm of cord remaining.

1.0 Introduction
This document contains several different criteria specifically chosen by Ingenious Co. to be used
to evaluate companies for a successful construction of the Mars Lander. The successful
tenderer will be the company who meets the requirements of the criteria shown in the table
below.
3.1 Capabilities
Marks will be allocated out of 10 for the teams which has the (Most experience/ Lacking
experience/No experience).
Marks allocated out of 10 according to how effectively the contractors have come together as a
team to construct a project( Very effective/ Moderately effective staff/ not effective).
3.2 Knowledge
3.3 Experience
Evidence must be submitted or shown in the form of photos along with written evidence which
may be helpful.
Marks awarded out of 15 against criteria such as (Very experienced/ little experience/ No
experience according to the evidence provided.
Evidence of experience of power tools must be submitted in the form of photos and videos
showing a safe workshop environment, accessibility to correct power tools and handling of the
tools in a correct and safe manner.
Marks will be awarded out of 15 for experience in electrical tools/ not much experience/ no
experience.
26
3.4 Organisation
3.4.1 Deadlines
The contractors required by Ingenious Co. are to be very committed and organised as we want
the project to be completed by a designated deadline. The contractors must arrive on time for
the team meetings of the construction days and are also required to submit weekly progress
reports to Ingenious Co. every Mondays before commencement of work. Contractors are
preferred to have had experience at a job outside of university as this will indicate responsibility
and experience under supervision.
Marks are allocated out of 10 to teams who can show screenshots of on time submissions of
previous projects or assessments and teams who can show previous employments through
work emails, or pictures of uniforms.
Criteria are (Submission 24 hours before deadline/ 12 hours before deadline/ 6 hours or less
before deadline or submitted late).
3.5 Communication
Marks are allocated out of 10 according to the criteria such as (Responds within 12 hours/ 1
working day/2 working day or 3 working day.
We would also like to point out that the team at Ingenious Co. are still up for suggestions from
the contractors regarding the designs if the tendering contractors can provide a detailed
breakdown of the designs.
Marks are awarded out of 10 for teams who has provided a (Excellent report/ Good report/
average report or poor report
The team who scores the highest out of 100 based on the criteria indicated above will be
chosen as the team who will construct the Mars Lander in cooperation with Ingenious Co.
