1) The African American Literatures and Cultures Institute strives to develope a cadre of inquisitive junior scholars interested in diversifying
higher education. To give us a good sense of your commitment to diversity, in the space below, please compose a short statement (about
300 words) of ways you have already contributed (e.g. volunteer work, special research projects, service activities, etc.) to efforts to increase
educational opportunities for underrepresented students or under-served communities.

2) Someday in the future, you will be a college professor charged with leading your own students in discussions focused on African
