WE the students of Mr. Velazquezs 4th period in

order to form a more governmentally aware

student, establish a foundation of knowledge in this

nations beginnings, insure the continuation of our

guaranteed liberties, promote the continuation of

learning, and secure the Blessings of graduation, to

ourselves and our prosperity, do recognize and

honor these documents that have inspired our

nations founders, paved the way the for our

separation of the tyrannical great Britain and

shaped the ways American colonist view

themselves and their natural born rights.

Its no secret that this nations government has been influenced by many European documents,

documents such as Jean-Jacques Rousseaus The Social Contract, the English Bill of Rights,

the Magna Carta, and finally John Lockes Two Treaties of Government, gave inspiration to

this nations leaders and paved the way to Americans independence.


Government

The most popular and most well-known of European documents is the Magna Carta, although

many have heard the name, very few know whats the document is about or how it affected this

nation. The Magna Carta was created by a group of barons to protect their rights against the

tyrant King John, these barons forced King John to ensure their rights, and to end his tyrannical

rule. Rights such as, We proceed against or prosecute him, except by the lawful judgement of

his peers or by the law of the land were protected with the signature of John. this excerpt

influences the sixth amendment, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial,

by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed.

The second most well-known document that has influenced American history is The English Bill

of Rights. The English bill or rights influenced the most popular and well-loved law. The second

amendment, the right to bear arms this was originally drafted from the Englishs Bill or

Rights, Protestants may have arms for their defense, even in modern times this right has

remained relevant. A less known document that has still effected the American government is the

The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques. This document brought the inspired idea that To decide

that the son is born a slave is to decide that he is not born a man which later became the 15th

amendment, that argued that no man is truly a slave, for it is inhumane and unjust. Lastly but

most influential was John Lockes Two Treaties of Government, the document opens will the

influential line, The state of nature is also a state of equality, this line has been the premise of

thee United Sates Government, this new nation, a nation of free people, people who are all equal.

by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the

pursuit of Happiness." The Declaration of Independence.


Government

Since the early days of American colonies, all people wanted their rights to be protected and

enforced. There are many documents throughout our countrys history that lost and protect the

peoples right. Three of these documents include the Mayflower Compact, Virginia State of

Religious Freedom, and the Massachusetts body of Liberates. These documents state many laws

that are made to protect the people. For example, the Mayflower compact established a Civil

government that ensures faro and bifacial laws for the pilgrims and strangers. The

mayflower Compact states, Covent and combine ourselves together into a civil body

Politicto enact, constitute and frame such just and equal lawsfor the general good of the

ColonyMayflower Compact. This document was created to form a government that will,

fairly establish law for the good of all. The Virginias State for religious Freedom was created to

enforce separation of church and state and protect everyones religious freedom. The document

establishes that, .no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place,

or ministry whatsoever, no shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or

beliefsVirginia State of Religious Freedom. Thomas Jefferson wrote the same statue to

ensure that the people are not striped or shamed for their beliefs. The Massachusetts Body of

Liberties Excerpt lists general rights that are given to all individuals, such as, No mans life

shall be taken away, no mans goods or estate shall be taken away from himEvery person

within this jurisdictionshall enjoy the justice and law that tis general for the plantation

Massachusetts Body of Liberties. Since the beginning of time man has fought for their rights,

even now man is still fighting for his basic right denied by cruel and tyrannical men. Documents

Government

The grieves the American colonist had against their king were logically justified. The colonist

gave King George of England the olive petition branch, this petition listed the needs of the

colonist, needs like, We your majestys faithful subjects of the coloniesYour majestys

ministers preserving in their measureshave compelled us to arm in our own defense.Olive

Branch Petition. These injustices continued to do nothing to the colonists. The colonist followed

up without a response from the king and created the Declaration of Rights, listing and describing

the injustices to Parliament. The colonist still English Citizens were being denied their basic

rights, thus the Common Sense Document simply stated how nonsensical it was that the colonist

was being treated as foreigners when they could simply defend themselves, and have no quarrels

with Great Brittan themselves.

The Articles of Confederation caused the new Americans to want a more productive democracy

for multiple reasons. One reason was the fear of a tyrannical government, one they never had

before. They chose a type of government that did not have a strong central government, instead

each state in the new American would maintain its powers. In the Articles of Confederation

Excerpts Article II states, Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom and independence, and

every power, jusduition and right in Congress assembled. This holds to be evidential to the

point of a non-tyrannical government. The Confederation was defective, and required to be

change. They gave the states legislative also gave the power of money entirely to state

legislature. Robert Morris to John Hanson claimed, To expect that under such circumstances

others will confide in the government would be folly, and go expect that foreigners would trust a

government which has no credit with its own citizens must be madness.1782. We will not be

able to trust a government which is responsible for the necessities of a strong stable government.
Government

To further prove that these documents have shaped the creation of our nation, you must take an

outside perspective and ponder what our nation wouldve amounted without the tyranny of the British

nation. The Magna Carta and the English Bill of right both gave inspiration to Thomas Jefferson that men

are born with natural right that the king must enforce; whereas John Locke and Jack Rousseau inspired

the core concept that all men are created equal. The Mayflower compact was created to form a well-

distributed government that will effectively protect its people. The Virginia statue of religious freedom

and Massachusetts body of liberties were created to state all of the rights of the people. The colonist was

being revoked their lawful even after multiple documents stating how Great Britain had mistreated. The

Articles of Confederation was the first form of a centralized government though it failed to establish

enforcement of laws. These were documents remain to be the foundation and support of our nation.
