I think grammar plays an important role in communicative competence, because it
allows students to communicate appropriate using the language in different contexts and situations. Therefore, to develop communicative competence is necessary to integrate communicative activities related to grammar points and it become more remarkable if students learn it in context. I believe that language teaching should include grammar rules accompanied with an explanation before ask students to do an activity, this develops accuracy and students are able to communicate using a wide range of expressions based in the learned rules. It implies the importance of grammar in order to get a higher level of communication.
Grammar is a main component of any language in the world. Without grammar,
you cannot understand, for example, the time of action whether it happens in the past or in the present. Therefore, it has a fundament role in the language. Unless an English learner is exposed to the language many hours a day during a long time, the only way to really success is through learning grammar. I always tell my students to compare language with a game; they both have rules and an objective. If you learn the rules you understand it and become a player, once you are player, you enjoy it and this is achieved by learning the rules, in this case: grammar. When students grab the grammar, they are on their way to become autodidactic; thus, they are in a far more advantageous position compared to someone who always has to rely on someone to learn. I like give grammar the whole time, when I give a grammar point I ask students to produce the language writing or speaking something related to the new structure in their real life. I know it is important concentrate on the four skills of the language. The English course I have in the school has many units, and each lesson contains listening, speaking, reading and writing. Grammar is involved in each lesson I give. So, as I said before grammar is important to get accuracy in communication. In my experience, the teaching of grammar is a factor that has given me positive results in the learning process of my students. Students need grammar to communicate and it is essential to find methods so that teaching does not become boring. I work in two different institutions, one is at a primary school where the program is focused in communicative activities with little grammar and the other one is in high school where I have the option of teaching grammar. Comparing the two forms of teaching, I have noticed, that the students of high school acquire a higher level of communicative competences with the grammar rules meanwhile elementary students easily forget the learned expressions. In my experience as a learner, I learnt the English language in a traditional way with a great percentage of grammar, the practice of listening and speaking was very little. In subsequent courses, I developed these skills with new teaching methods, which is why I have acquired an advanced level in all four skills. I believe that new teaching methods should integrate grammar teaching to engage students in real life communication.
