During the technology lesson,
my mentor teacher asked me
to assist a student with a
learning difficulty.
Task: Using the IPad, create a
book cover. The cover must
have:
- A title
- An image
- A recording
I worked together with the
student, giving her the control
of the ipad, nodding in
encouragement while she
follows the instructions (She
tries to be as independent as
possible). Only when she
asked for my assistance, I
would model what needs to be
done and get her to repeat
several times before we
moved on.
She managed to finish the
task on time, to our
excitement (I think I was more
excited).
Because I am teaching her
one-on-one is easy to shut the
class out and just focus on the
task. Therefore, when the
teacher was modelling for the
whole class, the student didnt
understand why she need to
listen (because she had me)
As my position is similar to an
EA (who was amazing when I
was teaching a lesson and she
was assisting the student) at
the time, I need to research
more on their strategies as to
not be a distraction in class.

My third lesson was on
identifying verbs, nouns and
adjectives.
I explained the meaning
through a group discussion on
what they thought each word
meant.
Whilst reading a story, I would
stop after a sentence and get

My mentor teacher requires
the lesson plan the night
before or even on the day of
the lesson. Therefore, I need
to create a lesson plan that
anyone can understand.
The first lesson was a writing
activity, where the students
need to be familiar with the
terms settings, character and
problems.
For the first lesson,
I tried to include the aim,
material needed and the
breakdown of the lesson. I
also included a few lines of
script to ensure I would not be
lost whilst delivering the
lesson.
The task I created was for
them to roll a dice for writing
prompts.
The students seemed to
understand the lesson (since
they have been exposed to
the terms beforehand). They
were willing to tackle the task
I had given, but it was a little
advance for their level.
The writing prompts could be
accompanied by an image.
I also could have spent more
time of the lesson doing a
group activity, modelling the
task, before asking them to
tackle it individually.

I volunteer at the local
mosque every Saturday to
teach students how to recite
the Quran (our holy book). I
would liken this to the letters
and sounds program that
happens in school.
The five students I am
responsible for are on the
same level, where they can
recognize the Arabic letters,
yet there are minor mistakes.
I got the students to start
from the very beginning of
their books to asses where
they need more work, and
throughout the term, keep the
list on hand to remind them
when the make the same
mistake or praise them when
they had fixed their mistakes.
The students became
confident readers, knowing
exactly which letters they
need to be careful when
reciting.
Hopefully by next term, they
would move to a higher level.
A more formal report does get
sent out for each student at
the end of the term, but
maybe an informal one, where
I write it in a book, to keep
track of their progress would
be more beneficial for me to
understand in which areas to
aid them in.

I have been volunteering
teaching students since I was
15. Yet I know that I could be
better. Sometimes the
strategies I would employ

I decided to enroll in the
MTeach program as most of
the students I have
encountered are in primary
school.
I tried to implement
everything I have learned to
my classes such as the low-
key responses and being
aware to create a safe
learning environment for the
students.
Outcome
I feel that I am more confident
whilst teaching, and truly
appreciate the efforts of all
the professional teachers
towards the betterment of a
childs education.

improvement whilst I am
dealing with my class.
