WCMS Tardy Policy

All students who arrive to school after 8:00 AM should report to the front office to sign in and
receive a pass for admission to class.

The definition of tardy is a student who is not physically seated in his/her seat when the bell
rings to begin class. Students who are tardy because of school-related reasons, e.g., late bus
and office conference, will be sent to class with a pass from the office. If a student is more
than 15 minutes late, he/she will be counted absent.

Students who are tardy for class during the day, will receive the following:

1st Tardy- Referral and phone call

The first time a child is being late for class, the teacher will write a referral and send it to In
School Suspension (ISS). The teacher will need to make a phone call home to the parents
informing them of the infraction and the consequences for being late moving forward. (ISS
Coordinator, Ms. Knight, will keep a record of the students who are tardy).

2nd Tardy ISS For Period

If a child is tardy for the second time, regardless of the week or month, he/she will remain in ISS
for that period. The teacher will need to make a phone call home to the parents. The student
take Tardy Notification home to parents of the infraction and the consequence if he/she
should be late a third time. The notification will need to be signed by the parents and return
the following day to ISS.

3rd Tardy ISS For Two Days

If a child is tardy for the third time, regardless of the week or month, he/she will be assigned to
ISS for a day. The teacher will need to make a phone call home to the parents and arrange a
conference. The student take Tardy Notification home to parents of the infraction and the
consequence if he/she should be late a fourth time. The notification will need to be signed by
the parents and return the following day to ISS.

4th Tardy- ISS Three Days

If a child is tardy for the fourth time, regardless of the week or month, he/she will be assigned to
ISS for two days. The teacher will need to make a phone call home to the parents and arrange
another conference. The student take Tardy Notification home to parents of the infraction and
the consequence if he/she should be late a fifth time. The notification will need to be signed by
the parents and return the following day to ISS.

5th Tardy - Parent Conference with Administrator

Meeting with administrator before student return to class
