Classify objects and count the numbers of objects in each category

2. Teaching Model(s):
Teacher Centered- Direct Instruction

3. Objective(s):
SWBAT understand what a rectangle is.
SWBAT use word phrases acquired through conversations, reading and being read to, and
responding to texts.

4. Materials and Technology Resources


The Big Book of Shapes
Whiteboards
Markers
Erasers

5. Instructional Procedures:
a. Motivation/Engagement:
Using the big book The Big Book of Shapes the teacher will point out squares that
they have gone over and then transfer over to rectangles.
The teacher will then ask students if they can name different objects around the
classroom that are rectangles. (Use right is right, Lemov)
Teacher will then show and draw for the students some different objects that are
rectangles
Teacher will then explain that rectangles are like squares except square have four
equal sides and rectangles have two different sides that are both equal.
Students will then practice drawing rectangles on their whiteboards. (Do it again,
Lemov.)
Students will then work on the worksheet "Itsy Bitsy Book" which has the
students tracing rectangles.
b .Developmental Activities or Learning Experiences:

Students will be give a worksheet to trace and draw rectangles.

c. Closure: After the students start to come close to finishing up the worksheet the
teacher will bring everyone back to the carpet and once again ask what a rectangle is.

6. Accommodations, Modifications and Differentiations for Diverse Learners:


For any student having a hard time with the lesson a teacher will be around to help out and give
further instruction
For any students that cannot control themselves or behave correctly they will lose out on a center
and get to sit and redo the lesson with a teacher.

7. Assessment and Evaluation of Learning:


a. Formative: Students will be assessed based on how well they are paying attention and
if they are participating.
b. Summative: Students will be graded based on the homework worksheet (A sheet with
different colors to sort out.)

8. Homework Assignment:
Rectangle worksheet where students have to color in the rectangles.

9. Reflection:
a. Strengths: The lesson went well, I got to do this lesson almost completely on my own
while Mrs. Szafranski was busy attending to other matters around the classroom.
b. Concerns: No real major concerns, I feel like I had the students attention and only had
to stop twice using "Pan 1" to get their attention.
c. Insights: Every week I feel like I am getting better at giving lessons and helping out in
the classroom.
