Masters in Research (MRes) in Advanced Genomic and Proteomic Sciences (Sept 2008
Oct 2009)

Institute: University of Nottingham, U.K

Project: Effects of nutritional and pharmacological interventions on zonal phenotype of HepG2
cell-lines to understand the role of these interventions in phenotypic transition in human liver.
Supervisor: Dr Simon Welham
Summary: Nutritional and pharmacological interventions were used to alter phenotype of HepG2
cells. Alterations were then assessed using biochemical and DNA assays and analysis of a
perivenous liver zone marker. Further analysis of alterations was done using microarray. Dealt
with day-day running of the laboratory, ordering and maintenance of consumables and drafted a
thesis.
Marks achieved: 60% (Merit)

Bachelors of Technology (B. Tech) in Biotechnology (4 year degree) (June 2004 May 2008)

Institute: Jaypee Institute of Information Technology University, Noida, India

Project: Characterization, Cloning and Expression of a Novel cDNA isolated by screening
chicken heart cDNA library.
Supervisor: Dr Vibha Rani
Summary: The novel cDNA was characterized by experimental tools i.e. size estimation of
excised cDNA was done. It was also characterized using different in-silico tools. Then this novel
c-DNA insert present in pBluescript phagemid was subcloned into GST expression vector system
and expressed. Trained new lab members and compiled a dissertation as well.
Marks achieved: CGPA of 7.4 out of 10 (First Class)

Research Scientist, Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine,

Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon, India, Jan 2012 April 2016 (4 years 4 months)
Worked with renowned liver surgeons at world's second largest and India's largest and most
successful living donor liver transplant centre which has a large research programme for liver cell
and stem cell transplantation.
Proposal writing: for research projects covering literature review, budget plan and statistical
analysis plan for application to government funding bodies.
Planning and lab work: Devised projects work plan along-with stepwise lab protocols and
executed the same with a team of scientists within deadlines.
Clinical trial Documentation and Patient interaction: Drafted case report forms, informed
consent forms and documents for ethical and regulatory clearance of project proposals and dealt
with patients for gathering clinical trial related information.
Data collection and analysis: using ms excel and healthcare information system (ehis) of
more than 20 clinical research projects, 6 of which have been published in peer reviewed journals
and remaining presented in international fora.
Lab based projects involved in:
PI: Dr A.S Soin
Project: Intra-peritoneal transplantation of encapsulated hepatocytes for acute liver failure.
Summary: A pilot study was done to evaluate the yield and viability from four different sources
of hepatocytes. Hepatocytes from four different sources were isolated and
cryopreserved using a standard protocol and samples were periodically assessed for
counts and viability. Functional viability of isolated hepatocytes was evaluated using
Urea, Albumin and MTT assay.
Projects in pipeline
PI: Dr A.S Soin
Molecular and genetic profiling of hepatocellular carcinoma towards better diagnosis and
prognostication.
PI: Dr Neeraj Saraf
Molecular marker profiling after loss of liver volume in living donor liver transplantation.
Summary of projects: Project proposal, work plan and first stage of clinical trial documents
drafted. Received necessary ethical approvals for the projects and applied for grants.

Summer Intern, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Gurgaon, India, May 2007 - July 2007 (3 months)
Combination of Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy is 5th largest specialty generics company in the world
and largest pharmaceutical company in India.
Department: Department of Biotechnology
Project head: Dr Kulvinder Singh Saini
Project: Cloning and expression of the gene of DNA gyrase from quinolone-resistant
Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Summary: This study was a part of project to examine mutations in DNA gyrase gene from
Quinolone-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Gene of interest was amplified, cloned and
expressed. Protein was extracted, analysed and purified and protein concentrations were estimated
as well. Compiled technical report for the same.

Summer Intern, National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi, India, June 2006
July 2006 (2 months)
Department: Division of Genomic Resources
Project Head: Dr Manjusha Verma
Project: Application of molecular markers to determine the genetic diversity in Medeola
virginiana L. germplasms.
Summary: Genomic DNA was isolated and purified from leaves of Medeola virginiana L. using
organic extraction method. DNA was quantified using fluorimeter. Then molecular markers like
Sequence-tagged microsatellites (STMS) and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD)
were studied. Drafted a report as well.

Intern, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India, Dec 2004 Jan
2004 (2 months)
Department: Division of Nematology
Project head: Dr A. Sirohi
Project: Invitro Regeneration of Solanum lycopersicum by Plant Tissue Culture Techniques.
Summary: Surface sterilization of Solanum lycopersicum seeds was done and then they were
incubated for germination. The Leaf discs were used as explants and transferred to regeneration

medium for callusing and shoot initiation. Regenerated shoots were subcultured and elongated
shoots were transferred to M.S basal media for rooting. The whole new regenerated plant with
roots and shoots was transferred to soil, first under controlled conditions and then to field for
hardening.
