Re: Bargaining Update
On July 5th, 2010 your Bargaining Committee, Sheryl Seale, Am Johal and Kim Tournat, held a conference call to review the rejection
of the proposed tentative agreement and have agreed to the following:

1. Take a strike vote, and applying for mediation. On July 16th the BCGEU Executive Committee has given their approval to
take a strike vote for the NDP CA’s.
2. Each person will receive a strike vote ballot, mailed to their home address, which is to be returned to Cheryl Jones, no
later than August 12, 2010. The results will be counted on August 13th, 2010 at the BCGEU Area Office.
3. Assuming we receive a strike vote, as per Section 74 of the BC Labour Relations Code, the BCGEU will make application
for the assistance of a Mediation Officer for the purpose of assisting the parties to reach a collective agreement.
4. If a tentative agreement is reached with the Mediator’s assistance, the BCGEU would conduct another vote for
acceptance or rejection of the final offer. As per previous balloting a package would be sent to your home address
including the tentative agreement, ballot, and full voting instructions.
5. If the final offer was accepted the renewal of the collective agreement would be completed.
6. If the final mediated offer is rejected, the Bargaining Committee would step down. Simultaneously, a call for nominations
for a new bargaining committee would be mailed to your home address.
7. As per Section 60 (3) (b) of the BC Labour Code, the BCGEU would issue the employer 72 hours strike notice. Your
worksite would not be deemed essential service and therefore each MLA office would be closed down during a strike.
8. The NDP CA’s would then proceed to a strike and each member would receive basic strike pay of $150.00 per week, plus
$35 per week per dependant for each week in which they are locked out of picketed off the job. In order to qualify for
strike payments, members are required to perform picket duty or other related activities as assigned by the union. Should
such an eventuality occur, further instructions would be provided.

It is important that you complete your ballot which is being mailed to your home address with instructions, and return it to the
BCGEU s soon as possible, as per the instructions provided.

Should you have any questions, please contact a member of your bargaining committee.

In solidarity
