RE: Project plan memo for Boys & Girls Club Las Vegas

This memo is to inform you of how we intend to conduct research, analyze, and solve a problem
apparent in the John D. Gaughan Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Club. Our team will be
researchers and explore ways to improve the clubhouse. This memo will outline our methods of
research, our project plans, and the roles each member will play.

Description
Our client is the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada, specifically the John Gaughan
Clubhouse located near UNLV (address: 920 Cottage Grove Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119). The
goal of this clubhouse, like all Boys & Girls Club locations, is to give the children of the
community access to food and recreation as well as opportunities to succeed. The clubs many
activities involve allotting playtime for the kids, assisting in their school homework, teaching
discipline among other important life skills, and feeding them nutritious food.
The people they try to help are mostly children from low-income families or from families where
the parents are unable to give time to them. However, all children are encouraged to join, as
diversity is also a big focus for the club. Many supervisors for this club are actually volunteers,
most of which are students from UNLV. The club typically has at least 2 volunteers on the job at
any given day, along with 4 or 5 adult supervisors. This all translates to an engaging community,
one with a diverse profile of children, young adults, and grown-up supervisors.

Problem
Some problems that BGCSNV faces is not enough equipment, staff and money. Also they need
more sponsors, even though they have some already, theres plenty of more needed. Essentially
money is a key part so they have to raise more money in order to sustain their campuses
especially the one at John Gaughans location.

Research Methods
Primary Research (interviews, surveys, observations, etc)
For the primary research, interviews will be made with the owner of the Boys and Girls Club by
UNLV and observe issues that the club is facing. In addition to this, observations will be made
after the issues are addressed when spending community service time at the location.
We will also come up with possible solutions to these issues and introduce a proposal to the
owner of the club. If possible, the proposal could also expand to other locations, as long as the
outcome is beneficial to the organization.
Secondary Research (library, online scholarly sources, etc)
Online research regarding how things are run in addition to research on the age of the location to
get a glimpse at why the issues are happening there. Similar issues could be researched, but first
we will need to interview the owner and understand what is going on in the facility that is
causing conflict.

Team Roles

have to encourage members to speak their opinions and ideas in order to keep us on track to
complete the project. He, along with the evaluator, work together to ensure everyone understands
what to do and that the project gets completed effectively and on time. The leader is not the only
decision-maker or summarizer.

Evaluator
The evaluator is responsible for keeping everyone on track and making sure our group as a whole
is making progress toward our goals. He must make sure that each member is pulling their fair
load of the group and that no one is falling behind. He also evaluates if members are
participating in meetings and group decisions.

Recorder
The recorder records the group decisions, ensuring that everything is recorded and well
administered.
