Dear Hiring Committee,
I am writing in response to the advertisement for the full-time Assistant Clinical
Professor position within the Department of Dental Hygiene. I am a board-certified registered dental hygienist, with eight years of clinical experience. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Community College and Higher Education emphasis here at Northern Arizona University (NAU). My anticipated graduation date is May 2017. For the 2016-2017 academic year, I have been employed as a full-time clinical instructor within the NAU Dental Hygiene Department. Along with instructing students in Head, Neck, Oral, and Dental Anatomy and Oral Radiology, I supervise three radiology labs. I also teach Multiculturalism in Dental Hygiene and work in both junior-level and senior-level clinics. Educating students has allowed me to gain invaluable classroom and course management skills that can only be honed through hands-on teaching. I take pride in helping students grasp concepts that will have a positive impact on themselves and the community. These experiences, as well as my adjunct faculty experience at NAU and A.T. Still University, have only solidified my desire to be a professor. Working in the Dental Hygiene Department affords me the pleasure of interacting with students, learning from seasoned faculty, helping to provide needed services to the community, and shaping the future of my profession. I am excited to continue working with my colleagues in the Department of Dental Hygiene to advance research, increase grant funding, provide community outreach, and prepare students for a rewarding career as oral health care providers. My current position within the department, along with my passion for dental hygiene, makes me an excellent candidate for this position. Retaining my employment would be a seamless transition for students, faculty, the department, and the university as a whole. I would be honored to continue working with our passionate students and exceptional faculty. I thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
