Legislators should care what We The People want
Editor, The Transcript:
The current Oklahoma
Legislature does not care
what We the People want if
it conicts with what they
collectively want. This lack
of concern can be demon-
strated by their reaction to
how We the People voted
for the State Questions in
the last election.
We the People voted
down their SQ 779, which
would have repealed that
part of the Constitution
that species the separation
of church and state. This
part of the Constitution
was why the Oklahoma
Supreme Court rejected
the Ten Commandments

the Capital grounds. This
year, the Senate has passed
SJR 43 and SJR 44, both
designed to make the Court
beholden to the legislature.
Furthermore, the House has
passed HB 2177 that will
attempt to bypass the Court
by arguing that the Ten
Commandments are his-
toric and therefore should
be acceptable for public
display along with other
historic relics.
We the People voted for
the citizen initiative SQ 780
that would convert low-
grade, nonviolent felonies
to misdemeanors. Members
of both houses have stated
that We the People did not
know what we were voting
for. The House passed HB
1842 which will create
zones around public entities
that will keep those low-
grade, nonviolent oences
as felonies; the net eect
will undermine the hoped
for goal of SQ 780 and its
complement SQ 781.
We the People voted
down their SQ 777 (Right
to Farm Act), which would
have protected agricul-
tural entities from State
regulations. The House has
passed HB2132 that creates
Prosperity Districts where
the entities in the districts
are protected from the state

states that were unsuccess-
ful at passing their Right to u
Farm Act model bill.
The current State leaders
have bankrupted the State
and now Oklahomans need
to drain our swamp. Kansas T
is well on their way to doing
just that. With just a few
more legislators like those
they have been electing or
getting rid of Gov. Brown-
back or better yet doing
both and they can reverse
their self-destruction. Lets
get busy here.
