Main Focus: Describing measureable attributes of objects, such as length and height.

Objectives (SWBAT):
Describe measureable attributes of objects using vocabulary words such as short, long, and tall
Common Core:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.MD.A.1 Describe measureable attributes of objects, such as length and
weight.
IEP Goals:
A will be able to generate category members (sort) and will be able to respond to questions using
an audible voice.
Assessment:
Sort paper strips into the two categories long and short
Technology:
Show an image of Ms. Asfour and her brother on the screen
Materials:
Image of Ms. Asfour and her brother
Short and long sorting sheet
Short and long paper strips
Scissors
Glue
Charade cards
Universal Design/Special Considerations
Graphic organizer of Short, Long, Tall with words and images
Ask an open-ended or choice question to A
Walk around the room to maintain attention, especially near Aa, C, and M
Kinesthetic Learning use bodies to show short, tall, and long

THE LESSON

Motivation/Opening/Intro:
Real world connection: describing people, especially my twin
Image of Ms. Asfour and her brother. Explain twins and that even though we are
the same age we are different heights.
o Is Taylor tall or short?
o Ms. Asfour?

Development:
Students demonstrate the different measurements Who can show me with your
body
o Tall
o Short
o Long
Charades:
o Give a student a charade card with short, tall, or long on it. Without using
words, students must demonstrate the adjective on the card.
o Students in the audience guess the word.
o Student who guesses gets the next card
Closure:
As an assessment/exit ticket, the students must sort the paper strips into short and
long.
