1. Calculate the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor with area of each


plate 1 cm2 ans separation 1mm?ans= 8.89x10-13farad? Ans=8.85x10-13F

3. A parallel plate capacitor is to be designed with a voltage rating 1kv
using a material of dielectric constant 3 and dielectric strength about 107
Vm-1. What minimum area of the plates is required to have a
capacitance of 50pF?ans= 1.9x10-3m2 as electric field at the most 10% of
dielectric strength.
4. Three capacitors of 1 F,2F and 3F are joined in series first and then
in parallel. Calculate the ratio og equivalent capacitance in the two

12.A capacitor is to be constructed so that its capacitance is 0.2F and to
take a p.d. of 1.25kV across its terminals. The dielectric is to be mica
which, after allowing a safety factor of 2, has a dielectric strength of
50MV/m. Find (a) the thickness of the mica needed, and (b) the area of a
plate assuming a two-plate construction. (Assume r for mica to be 6.)
