Simplifying trigonometric expressions

Simplify.

sin x sec x
Use algebra and the fundamental trigonometric identities.
Your answer should be a number or use a single trigonometric function.

In simplifying trigonometric expressions, we often use methods similar to those used

when simplifying algebraic expressions.

We can also use identities such as the following fundamental trigonometric identities.

Reciprocal identities:

1 1 1
sin u = cos u = tan u =
csc u sec u cot u
1 1 1
csc u = sec u = cot u =
sin u cos u tan u

Quotient identities:

sin u cos u
tan u = cot u =
cos u sin u

Pythagorean identities:

sin 2 u + cos 2 u = 1
2 2
tan u + 1 = sec u
cot 2 u + 1 = csc 2 u

The current problem:

To simplify sin x sec x, we can work as follows.

1
sin x sec x = sin x Using a reciprocal identity
cos x
