I have always wondered the behind the scenes in a Clinic where

patients get checked up for their annual physical or receiving vaccinations.

Usually medical staff have their own space where patients cannot enter due

to caution with whats behind the Medical office? Throughout my experience

being at The Novant Health Clinic located in Downtown Charlotte, it was

quite an experience to see patient getting help from the professionals

Doctors and Medical Assistants. As well, I have a passion in the medical field

and currently I am pursuing a degree in Medical Office Administration, makes

me feel how comfortable to be helping and assisting patients and what goes

on behind the clinic doors.

As this is what I am similarly going to do in the future, it is very

important for myself to understand how the job works and making sure I

am doing the right thing. Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform

administrative and clinical duties. (AAMA 2017) From this source of AAMA,

advanced Medical assistants can exceed even more to become a

professional assistant. This is a goal I would like to complete because if

you love people and you care about Healthcare so much, this is perfect

career job for anybody that can accomplish. Being a multitasker in this job

is very proficient to do and having excellent skills to do this, which in the

medical field you will need. In an interview with a medical assistant, one

of the question I asked was What do you do as Medical Assistant at the

Front Desk? Her response was that you answer all calls, schedule patient

appointments, check in patients, and handing them referrals for any

specialty doctor. It is pretty amazing to do something that is front desk

and you can help the patients by checking with them in the back behind

the door scenes. Its great as well to do two things at once, a little hectic

but it is worth the work. (Jasmine Flores 2017) By asking her, it made feel

very confident to see what I can do once I start working in the front desk

and starting to help patients.

In regards in helping with patients, the big action is helping patients

and comfort them by making sure everything is okay and meeting

healthcare standards. For me, patients are very important and I love

helping people out, a lot. While taking a tour in Novant health at

Charlotte, everybody was pleasant and very helpful with patients, it

caught my attention when I was walking around. What Medical

Procedures did you perform to your patients? Jasmine answered that first

she checks in with their height and weight next she checks their heart

beat, temperature, and updates information with the patient to make sure

everything is up to date and correct (Jasmine Flores 2017). Into this

format by my experience, it is always important to double make sure the

information is correct and to not mistake anybody else with a different

patients information. I would not like to see a patient going through a

huge situation just because a front desk worker decided not to narrow her

search for the accurate patient information, and it is always important to

double check the patient information and confirm the patient

informations, always. Your personal health insurance information,

including your Social Security number, address, and email address, is

valuable and vulnerable. When it gets into the wrong hands it can be used

to steal expensive medical serviceseven surgeriesand prescription

drugs or to procure medical devices or equipment such as wheelchairs

(Michelle Andrews 2016). This source is really good and I agree because

any patient can be a target for Identity theft and this a serious case to

deal with. Patients should always verify their information and double make

sure everything is correct.

Into my final paragraph, One of the most amazing things that happen

when I was interviewing was learning their medical terminologys and

seeing on how to vaccinations. I enjoyed seeing that because not only of

the patients facial expressions of getting a vaccination but only on youre

supposed to handle them. What are your techniques to calm a patient

down when they receive a vaccination? Jasmines response to just talk to

them and always encourage them that it is worth it for their health

(Jasmine Flores 2017).

In regards to this procedure, I actually had the experience to calm a

patient down during the process! Not only did I interview a medical

assistant but I actually helped a patient just to see what I will be doing in
the next few years. I calmed down the patient and the patient was very

frightened but just wanting to get it over with. She was amazed on how I

calmed down and I wasnt even an M.A. Into this step, Jasmine actually

told me how to process in giving a vaccination to a patient. Explain the

process of placing a vaccination shot to a patient. In this process you

want to get a alcohol wipe and wipe the area where you are going to

inject the shot at, just get rid of the germs and anything that wont infect

the vaccination, next you want to have the vaccination ready in a quick

way just so the patient can be ready and inject, and finally inject the shot

to the area where it needs to be. Do not to do rough because the patient

could have a severe bruising or inflammation, always be gentle and talk

to the patient and relaxing them as well. Calming the patient down is

always great, and their fear is done (Jasmine Flores 2017).
