An Miscellany of Wuthering Heights

Emily Bront was an English novelist and poet who produced only one novel, Wuthering
Heights. Of her three sisters, Emily was perhaps the greatest writer. After the death of
their mother in 1821, the six Bront children were left to themselves in the bleak
moorlands and spent most of their time in reading and composition. In 1838, spent six
exhausting months as a teacher in Miss Patchett's school at Law Hill, near Halifax, and
then resigned. When Wuthering Heights was published in 1847, it did not fare well; only
later it came to be considered one of the most finest novels in the English language.

Snodgrass offers clear information on Bronts life and helps the readers sympathize
with her for all that she has gone through. With a significant amount of deaths in her
family, Bronts devotion to writing and poetry has given a refined outcome; helping her
produce a romantic tragedy. Though Wuthering Heights is the only novel she had
published, it proves to be a beautiful piece of literature. Bront died of tuberculosis
shortly after publication and didnt get to see the rising popularity of the book, yet, the
novel she wrote wont be forgotten by those who read it.

Tompkins, Joyce M.S. Emily Bront. Emily Bront, Reconesse Database,

beta.reconesse.org/past/charlotte-bronte-1818-1848/.

Joyce Tompkins writes about how Bronts work on Wuthering Heights cannot be dated,
and she may well have spent a long time on this intense, solidly thought-out novel. It is
distinguished from other novels of the period by its dramatic and poetic presentation.
When published, critics were hostile, calling it too savage, too animal-like, and clumsy in
construction and only later it was considered one of the finest novels in the English
language. Bront had been ill for quite a while but after publication her breathing
became difficult, and she suffered great pain, and then died soon after.
This article was clear and factual; informative. Joyce elaborates on how Wuthering
Heights affected Emily Bronts life, how she put her whole lifes work into one beautiful
novel. It also brings up a point the readers did not considerthe point the early critics
made about the book being too savage and clumsy in construction. Because Bront
underwent tragedy and despair in her life, the readers can embrace how genuine the
author is and how she understands what shes writing about.

Jennie provides literary criticism on Emily Bronts novel, Wuthering Heights. Jennie
believes that the characters produced by Bront are annoying and the plot line is too
confusing. She agrees that this novel is well-written, but the storyline feels abnormal and
downright messy.

Jennie expresses her distaste in this article based on how dysfunctional she found the
characters in Wuthering Heights, especially Heathcliff. Due to the negative tone in this
article, readers might have a lesser impression on Bronts writing and might consider
the line between deeply flawed and psychotic.

Understanding Mental Suffering,
ec.europa.eu/research/rtdinfo/en/28/dossier5.html.

This article from RTD Info explains the science behind mental suffering. It is not
known exactly what region of a depressive, paranoid, or schizophrenic patients
brain could be affected. Scientists are trying to correlate observations to
determine the factor that is the key to mental and personality disorders. Generally,
types of this suffering include depression, anxiety, fright, distress, grief, or
trauma.

In Wuthering Heights, Bront makes sure that all her characters have a fatal flaw,
or something to break them. Almost all the characters suffer mentally, and some
even die from it. Suffering is central in the love story between Catherine and
Heathcliff. Though Heathcliff doesnt undergo any physical illness, his exceeding
love for Catherine causes him great mental anguish.

Women, Bloom for. What Is Betrayal Trauma? Betrayal Trauma, Bloom,

bloomforwomen.com/pages/betrayal-trauma.php.

This article informs us on the basic knowledge of betrayal trauma. Betrayal trauma is a
condition similar to PTSD and is caused by when someone experiences betrayal or
depression. This type of trauma can cause someone to break of all bonds out of fear.
People who have experienced this have also had anxiety, depression, fatigue, grief and
fear afterwards.

Betrayal, like revenge, drives most of the plot in Wuthering Heights. When Catherine
leaves Heathcliff to marry Edgar, Heathcliff disappears for three years and accuses her
of betrayal when he comes back, framing it to look like she did it. This article helped give
a clearer understanding of the characters in this book and what they are going through.
