Resume Reflection

Through the process of researching careers regarding environmental engineering, I

gained incredible knowledge that I was not aware of before. Seeing all of the many jobs offered

in this field and which jobs would work best for me helped me narrow down possible careers in

the future. I even discovered an internship offered by Enterprise Shared Services Corporate

Environmental Remediation that I can apply for when I am in college. The internship looks at

many aspects of engineering such as being able to participate in actual remediation projects in

order to provide the project team with support. To help the team out, you base your support on

research youve gathered. This research can come from the time spent on the project site or even

from testing different hypotheses in a lab.

For the interview, I contacted Erik Gammon, who has three years of experience as a

design engineer, one year experience as a senior project engineer and a R and D Department

Supervisor, experience as an Engineering Manager for five years, and experience as a Director of

Engineering for 4.5 years. From a young age, Erik has always had an interest in building and

seeing what it is that makes up all of the many different inventions we come up with. He later

realized that working on projects and creating new things became his desire. Then, Erik went on

to pursue that passion and went to an engineering school to learn more about the profession.

This gave him a set of Scientific tools that complimented his creative thinking that helped him

solve more complex issues. His favorite part about engineering is being able to design something

that later becomes part of our reality and how rewarding the process is of coming up with a

solution that would be used to solve a problem. Eriks typical workday consists of balancing out

due dates of tasks and deadlines for projects. He also provides insight for colleagues and other

engineers. Erik is even in charge of delegating responsibility to his engineering team and

supplies them with guidance on various design challenges. Finally, he says that the fundamentals

of engineering consist of having a firm sense of logic, being able to use the scientific method,

analyze data, having the ability to create troubleshoot problems that may arise, and coming up

with creative solutions to solve issues along with being able to work well with others, including

your engineering team.

It has been extremely interesting to learn about this profession and what it entails. Being

able to contact an actual engineer was definitely helpful, this gave me more knowledge about the

career and engineering in general that I didnt already know. Having this acquired knowledge

about engineering has shaped my feelings towards the job tremendously. I can definitely see

myself doing a job regarding engineering in the future. Ultimately, being able to talk to someone,

an engineer specifically; without doubt has helped me see the career as a possible job in the

future because of the information and details about engineering that I now am aware of.
