Dear Wits Plus Returning Student

We hope that 2016 was an academically stimulating year for you at Wits and we look
forward to your return in 2017. The purpose of this letter is to share information with you
about returning student registrations in 2017.

If 2016 represents the completion of your degree studies, read no further. Instead we
would like to congratulate you on your well-earned success and look forward to seeing
you at your Graduation Ceremony in 2017. Consult the Wits webpage (www.wits.ac.za or
the link http://www.wits.ac.za/graduations/ ) with the graduation dates and to check if
you appear on the graduation list and when you do graduate.

In 2017, all students will be required to register online from home or the office. The
online registrations will open on 16 January 2017 and will close on the 30 th of January
2017. There will be a Single-Point Services Centre (SPSC) Hall 29 - only for
students who cannot manage to register online this should be exceptional cases.
The SPSC venue Hall 29 and its immediate surrounds, located on the Braamfontein

your home faculties, the Fees Office, ICAM, CNS, SENC, AISU, the Parking Office
and the International Students Office (ISO), all of whom will be available to assist you
with your registration on 21 January 2017. We will also have a mini-registration day on
the 28th of January 2017 at the Wits Plus office, but without the supporting units like the
faculties, the Fees Office, ICAM, CNS, SENC, AISU, the Parking Office and the
International Students Office (ISO)
Please bring along a pen, your offer letter, proof of payment of the registration fee
and your identity document for registration.

Please note that if you do online registration, you will have to come in at a later stage to
collect your parking disk and to renew your student card, but you will be missing all the
long queues during registration and can do it in your own time during office hours.

Only in exceptional circumstances will a student be allowed to register on another date

after the registration dates. Classes start on 6 February 2017 and we still have to finalize
the class lists and course packs before then. A student who do not register on the date(s)
listed will incur a late registration fee.

PHASE 1
The compulsory upfront tuition fee payment (first payment for local students towards
tuition fee) for 2017 is R9340. You can pay the R9340 prior to the date of registration
at least 5 days before the date of registration. Please make money transfers two or
three working days before registration, for it to reflect on your account in time. If the
amount does not reflect or the financial clearance flag is not lifted, you will not be
allowed to register online or to enter Hall 29 and you will not be able to register. You can
also make payments on the Students Self-service portal (https://self-service.wits.ac.za/).

Students who wish to make payment on the date of registration, may do so at the Fees
and Cashiers Office from 08:00 14:00 Monday to Friday. You will be able to make
cheque (bank guaranteed cheques only) and credit card payments of the upfront
tuition fee and then obtain fees clearance. Cash payments will have to be made at the
Fees and Cashiers Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House (Senate House) on
the Braamfontein east campus (Main Campus). All assistance related to fees queries will
be provided at the Fees Office.

You may pay in advance by credit card. This may be done by telephone on (011) 717
1544/43/42, by faxing the credit card details with a copy of your identity document to
(011) 717 4903, or you may call in person at the Cashiers Office, Ground Floor,
Solomon Mahlangu House. If you prefer these methods, please make sure the Fees Office
clear the HOLD status, before you register online or come to the registration Hall.

Please always retain proof of your payment if you are asked to present it at registration.

Students who are recipients of bursaries, scholarships, whose fees are paid by their
companies / employers must make prior arrangements with the Financial Aid and
Scholarships Office or Fees Office in Solomon Mahlangu House prior to registration to
get clearance to register online or in Hall 29. The contact details above can be used for
communication with them.

International students can pay 75% of their fees and international registration fee 5
days before registration to obtain a fees clearance. The remaining balance has to be
paid on or before 31 March 2017. Failure to do so will result in the University cancelling
the registration on 3 April 2017. The international registration fee is non-refundable.
Prior to your registration you have to get clearance from the International Students Office
(ISO). You will not be allowed to register without that clearance. International students
also need to obtain an international clearance certificate from ISO before they can
register1. International students on bursaries/sponsorships should have with them a letter
from the donor which specifies that the bursary covers 100% tuition or the rand value for
tuition; the International Registration Fee (IRF); South African medical aid cover until 31
December 2017; and accommodation costs, if applicable.

Students who wish to make payment prior to the date of registration may do so by

your deposit slip and bring that with on your registration day.

PHASE 2
When you have obtained your fees clearance, you can register online at home or your
office or proceed into Hall 29 on the given date (international students will require an
international clearance certificate as well). When registering at home/office please follow
the instructions as set out in ANNEX 1. If you register at Hall 29 - Collect your
curriculum planning sheet at the first Wits Plus table. Then proceed to the relevant
Faculty tables Commerce or Humanities to consult with the Curriculum Advisors or
School/Department representatives for guidance and advice on your curriculum, if you
are not sure what to select. Complete your curriculum planning sheet, and get it signed as
indicated in phase 3.

PHASE 3
Once this is done, sign off the curriculum planning sheet, at the SIGN OFF table and
proceed to register yourself with assistance at the computer terminals in the next section
of the registration hall. After you have captured your courses and have been successfully
registered you will be able to apply for parking and clubs and societies online, before you
proceed to the next phase, where they update your student card and you receive your
parking disk (optional).

Students who have lost or damaged cards (damaged does not include fair wear and
tear) and who have an acceptable form of photographic identification with them can fill
out the necessary documentation at registration, pay the appropriate amount (R130.00)
at the Cashiers Office in Senate House Concourse, and present the receipt together with
a letter of registration to the ICAM Card Centre, where they will be issued with a new
card.

When you register at Wits Plus, on the 28th of January 2017, the process will be a little
different and will take much longer.

Once you have successfully completed all the phases/requirements listed above, you will
be registered and can commence classes on 6 February 2017. Please note that it is a
disciplinary offence to attend classes for which you have not registered. Please check
your letter of registration and your account on the self-service portal
( https://self-service.wits.ac.za/ ) to make sure that you are registered for the correct
courses.
