The Shinobi Academy, Ranking System and Rank Examination

Originally ranks were subjective within Clans, with no overall established village
hierarchy. Similarly, shinobi were taught techniques within their clans with no common
teaching methods. This lack of organization often led to disagreements between clans and
chaos on the battlefield. Forehead Protectors and Armour were given to all Shinobi to
distinguish between ally or enemy, but it wasn't until the rule of Asukai no Yamato (the
1st) that a rank system would be created.

During the Summer of 1214, the school was altered into the Trgakure Shinobi
Academy. The invention of the academy saw a great increase in shinobi potentials due to
pooled knowledge, for example: Clans that lacked in Genjutsu knowledge suddenly had new
resources to learn from. This also marked the first time that Clan-less peasants could enroll
and learn to become shinobi. Seven years later during August of 1221, the first class of
Shinobi would graduate the Academy. In addition, each shinobi was given a 6-digit
Registration number to keep track of their progress.

The Shinobi Academy: First steps to becoming a Ninja Seito.

There is only one way to become a shinobi. Graduate the Shinobi Academy!
Children are enrolled into the Academy at the age of 5 or 6 by their parents or legal
Guardian, but to be accepted you must have full citizenship and pass a brief physical exam
and interview. While Non-Clan would have started as civilians and later applied to join the
Academy to study, Clan Leaders tend to teach the children of their clan the Hiden and
Kekkei Genkai of their clan. In a way, clan members have a form of homeschooling with the
academy that non-clan do not.

Typically, from the age of 5 until 10 (5 Years) students will enroll into the Minor
Academy. Minor Academy Classes are generally about knowledge, Mathematics, Rankings,
Laws and history. Then from 10 or 11 until 12 or 13 (2 Years) students will enroll into
the Intermediate Academy. This is when students begin to learn basic
ERank Techniques such as Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, handling Weapons and Seals. They
graduate in August, just before the Festival of a Thousand Flames!

Squad Assignment and Missions: The path of the Low

Ninja Genin.
If you graduate from the Academy, you are promoted to Genin Genin loosely means
"Low Ninja."
Genin are assigned to a three man Squad under the supervision of a Jnin Sensei to ensure
their safety.
They can only complete basic, D-Rank (safe) Missions, and learn all their Techniques from
their Sensei.
This prevents them from getting killed before they reach potential, and from learning
forbidden Jutsu.
Unless supervised by their Jnin Sensei, Genin are not allowed to leave the village gates at
any time.

In this regard, Genin often feel very limited and grow restless due to their total lack of
authority,
as well as the vast limitations imposed upon them. Trgakure is known for being much
more stringent,
but for also having the highest survival rate in Genin out of any village. Thus, it is for their
own safety.
Informally, the word "Genin" is simply used as a slang to refer to a much less skillful Chnin
and Jnin,
as the word Genin literally means "Low ninja." This usage tends to annoy Genin even
further, however.

Improvements and Growing: The path of the Middle

Ninja Chnin.
If a shinobi begins to show potential, he may enroll into exams to attempt to prove his
shinobi worth.
To achieve a higher shinobi rank, one must prove themselves worthy of a promotion in the
Chnin Exams.
Exams are held every 6 months and may be retaken as many times as necessary until the
shinobi passes.
Exams are also used as a form of bragging rights by clans to showcase their Talents and
Clan Techniques.
Ksetsumura actually has an official Ranking called Kachnin, which lies between Chnin
and Jnin Rank.

If you fail the exam 3 or more times, you may take enroll into an Alternate
Examination Process.
This process is not as honorable or respected as traditional examination, but is
much easier to complete.
Jnin refer to these Chnin as "Nise Chnin" (False Middle Ninja) to denote they still need
supervision.
While the term "Datsuraku" (DropOut) is more commonly used, and is much less
respectful to them.
Most older shinobi strictly oppose the system, seeing it as the reason for the decline in
shinobi talent.

True Specialization and Talents: The path of the High

Ninja Jnin.
If a shinobi shows greater potential, he may once more enroll into exams to prove his
shinobi worth.
Jnin are allowed to perform missions by themselves, or link up with other teams to perform
missions.
If a Jnin is particularly ambitious, he may enroll into secondary education to study a
Specialty Career.
It is the Rank which most military operations become available, and where you are seen as
an adult.

To achieve this Rank Promotion, one must prove themselves worthy of promotion in
the Jnin Exams.
Exams are held every 6 months and may be retaken as many times as necessary, alike
Chnin Exams.
There is a fee of Rys they will have to pay per examination attempt, to cover the costs of
hosting exams.
Unlike Chnin exams, Jnin Exams are harder and more dangerous. The combat rules are
much less strict,
and may lead to serious injury or in rare cases, death. This has garnered some scrutiny by
the softhearted.
A Jnin who Governs a Specialty and Trains others in it is named "Tokubetsu
Jnin" (Specialty Top)
While not an official Ranking, this is used to differentiate Squad Leader Jnin and
Specialized Brigade Jnin.
In addition to Tokubetsu Jnin, there are also Career Jnin who will perform specialized
village occupations.
These occupations are acquired through PostAcademy schooling and each have their own
Test Standards.

To Apply for a Career, you must be Jnin Rank. You will be interviewed by the
Akarikage.
Trgakure has several different careers, and more are opening positions as the
years go by:
Trgakure Army: A soldier in the village's main military force, more than just a
mercenary.
Sealing Division: A specialized brigade that focuses on sealing foes rather than
engaging them.
Interrogation brigade: A shinobi who assists Interrogation, torture and darker
village matters.
Infiltration brigade: A shinobi who specializes in espionage, infiltration and
information gathering.
Village Crisis Control: A task force that guards the gates, aids the village in disaster
and war.
Village Defense Team: A volunteer who aids in maintaining village barriers and
sensory radar.

injuries.

generation.

to teach.
Shinobi Police: A group of police who keep the peace in Trgakure should there be
violation.
Shikaku Seiei: An elite shinobi who protects, and serves the Akarikage as his
personal henchmen.
Clan Leader: One who leads internal clan workings, and represents the clan in most
cases.
Akarikage / Adviser: Lead the village, there is only one Akarikage and Adviser at
any time.

Honorable Appointments: The Path of the Heavenly

Ninja Tennin.
Tennin is the highest and most exalted of Shinobi, with the root name being from
"Ten" (Heavenly)
and is the highest General Rank one can achieve, seated below only the Shikaku
Seiei and Akarikage.
Naturally, it commands a great amount of respect and authority among your peers atop the
hierarchy.
The Tennin Ranking Test can be applied for during most other exams, but may only be
taken once!
An appointment can only be sponsored by a high ranking Jnin in the village, and can only
be done once.
Failure thus hurts this shinobi's reputation in the village, and reattempts must be forged at a
secret shop.
