Lesson 3: Graphic Organizer

Begin researching for this concept map by reading Symbols and Motifs in Navajo Weavings,
The Brief History of Navajo Chief Blanket and their Three Phases . While reading, take note of
any key elements in each phases of Navajo Chief blankets such as designs, symbols, functions,
types of weaving, time frame.
After gathering this information, pick one of the images below to analyze in your concept
map. (See the example)
1. Your concept map must start with your selected image.
2. Analyze the image in terms of three main categories: (Just like the example below)
Principles of Design
Color Scheme
Cultural and Historical elements
3. Your subcategories must at least include:
3 principles of design with brief description for each (visit here to review the
principles of Design)
2 color schemes (See the example) with brief description (visit here to review
color schemes on Color Wheel)
3 cultural and historical facts.
In this part:
First subcategory: you will analyze the blanket by looking carefully
to the composition of the design and explain briefly if the blanket
belongs to any of the Navajo phases. If it is not, explain why.
Second and third subcategories can be anything from the time when
the blanket was made, the function and usage, and the pattern. (see
the example below)
You will be using Popplet to create this graphic organizer, so you need to create a free
account.
