Ever since it became a legal requirement that children in our cars are safely secured, the standards for childrens
car seats have become more and more stringent.
There are a large number of childrens car seats for various age groups which fulfil these requirements. However,

even the best child seats offer no protection if they are not fitted correctly or used properly. Although many child
seats are secured in similar ways, every seat has its own particular belt fastening system. Therefore, it is vital
to listen to the advice of specialist staff when buying a child seat, and equally important to read the operating
instructions.
If you have a very young child, you need to be aware that all baby seats from Group 0+ (babies up to 13 kg) utilise
rear-facing systems, i.e. the seat must be fitted so the child is facing backwards. Please note: these baby seats
may only be fitted to the front passenger seat if the passenger airbag has been deactivated, or if the car is not
fitted with a passenger airbag.

Many injuries can be avoided if children are correctly secured. Yet a recent study showed that only 31% of child
safety seats are used correctly. It is also important that children are properly secured for all journeys, regardless
of their length. The risk of injury for unsecured children in cars is seven times higher than that for children in
appropriate safety seats.
