Social Action Production Proposal

Name of production
Help and Rescue

Reason for following this issue

Passion for helping animals in need as well as having a dog, which has come from
the issue which I will be making my social action video on. There is still a problem
with animal adoption so I think it is a very relevant and important to get people to
adopt animals through rescue homes. This links in with the idea of adopt, do not
shop.

Length of production
I will be aiming to have my documentary around 12 minutes long, I believe this
will be enough time fit in all of the information that is needed to make an impact
on the audience whilst also not going on for too long and becoming potentially
boring.

Interviewees in production
Interview with worker at DBARK rescue center.

Production angle, how and why

My production will be mainly focusing on encouraging people to look at rescue
homes before they decide to adopt. There are hundreds of dogs that need
adopting but are left in the rescue homes in Wokingham alone. My social actions
main objective will be to change the mindset of the audience.

A production layout (beginning, middle and end)

Opening:
The opening of my social action video will be me giving out the basic information
on what I will be going over in the video and what I will be looking into. I will also
share a personal story on how I adopted my dog from the rescue home.

Middle: The main middle part of my interview will be me travelling to DBARK

rescue center and conducting my main interview. Throughout this, I will be
narrating over certain clips and giving further information. I will be adding
in various b roll, which I have filmed, from being at the rescue center, as
well as adding in found footage. Throughout this, I will try to show the audience
what is happening on my issue and expose them to some brutal truths.

End: The end of my social action documentary will be further narration from
myself as I conclude all of my points and make my final points on rescue animals
and how people can help. I will also make an appeal to my audience to make a
donation and give them more information.

Target Audience and why

My target audience will be mainly people who are looking to adopt dogs/animals,
this would usually be a slightly older audience of around 25 plus. The social action
will also be aimed global audience even though issue is situated in a local area.
I also conducted a survey in order to find out whom I should be aiming my social
action at. This survey can be found on my weekly.

Production

Before you go off and film please be aware of the following.

PRODUCTION TIPS:

Interview in relevant locations

Make sure there is no background noise when filming - ask to turn off all machines or film
in a quiet location and if outside try and use a wind cover and microphone.

Use TWO cameras when filming - One following the interviewer and one following you as
you had with your multi camera unit
Get MORE footage than you need - you can always cut items out but you
cannot add once you have filmed

Think about how you want the final product to look before you start filming

Add archive footage (clips, newspaper clippings, footage from news stories etc...) but
ALWAYS reference them on screen and make sure you have permission to use them

Once filming is finished make sure the following is complete BEFORE you start
to edit your production

B Roll In todays modern society, 2017, it is hard to
believe that animals in the millions are getting
mistreated abandoned and left with without
homes to live in. Unbelievably this is not just an
issue in third world countries either; it is an issue
here in the UK to. There were 56,000 dogs alone
abandoned in the UK in 2015, which is 56,000
too many. To add to this there was 143,004
reports of animals cruelty across the UK in 2016
and of course, this does not take into account all
of the unreported acts of animal cruelty, which
would raise this, number drastically.

Footage of my dog
This is Kizzi, as you can see she is a happy
healthy dog who looks as if nothing bad could
ever have happened to her, unfortunately this is
not the truth and when she was only a puppy
someone heartlessly abandoned her with no
food or protection where she would have
eventually died. Luckily, this did not happen
though and an animal rescue team found
her where she was then taken to DBARC
rescue center where she could find a new
home, that home being my home.
Footage of the I went back to DBARC rescue center where is got
an interview with Julie who worked there. She
rescue center
told me more about the rescue center and how
they help the rescue animals at the center and
help them find new homes.

Footage of rescue After the interview, Julie told us about a three-

legged dog who had been living at the rescue
animals
center for a while, so we went to go give him a
visit. He had to have his leg amputated due a
tumor, which had spread over his leg and made
him unable to walk.

Ending section, Going to DBARC and meeting Julie and all the
animals really gave me a further appreciation of
compilation of
the work that goes at these rescue centers not
rescue animals just here in Wokingham, but across the world
However, Even know there is such amazing work
going on in places just like DBARC there is still
animals that need our help, and not just the
young cute puppies and kitten but the older
damaged animals need a loving home just as
much, so please adopt dont shop. Thank you.
