NOTIFICATION:
On March 22, 2017, | was notified by Deputy State Fire Marshal Jery Crane of a structure fire in Nome, ND. The
Barnes County Sheriff's Office requested our assistance with the origin and cause of this fire. | contact Alcohol,
Tobacco and Fire Arms (ATF) Special Agent (S/A) Derek Hill and made arrangements with Barnes County Sheriff's
Department to meet at the scene at 9:00AM on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
ON-SCENE INVESTIGATION:
| arrived on scene at 6:45AM on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClafiin was on scene
upon my arrival. Barnes County Sheriff's Department, members of Nome Fire Department, and ATF S/A Hill assisted
with the investigation. Barnes County Sheriff's Department maintained control of the scene until arrived.
TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION:
This was a wood-framed building constructed with wood siding and asphalt shingles
EXTERIOR EXAMINATION:
My exterior examination consisted of walking completely around the entire structure. All combustible materials were
consumed by fire. The basement was full of ashes and non-combustible materials.
INTERIOR EXAMINATION:
No interior examination was conducted due to fact that all combustible materials were consumed by fire and had
fallen into the basement.
AREA OF FIRE ORIGIN:
The area of fire origin was near the southeast walk-in door.

Interviews were conducted by the Barnes County Sheriff's Department,

OPINION AND CONCLUSION:
After completing my on scene investigation; its my opinion an unknown person or persons intentionally set fire to the
area near the southeast walk-in door of this building using an undetermined open flame device; therefore, | am
labeling the cause of this fire to be incendiary. This structure had no electrical service, no source of heating, This was
‘a secured facility; new locks had been installed just one (1) day prior to the fire
