Course description: This course is part of a two year IB Language B program. This first year
we will focus on learning about different countries and their current events. You will also read a
variety of texts such as articles, blogs, short novels, plays, poetry and short stories. Speaking
will require you to describe images, relate them back to the target culture and explain and
defend opinions.

*Please note that you will not take the IB Spanish exam this year. The exam is taken
after IB year 2 is completed during your senior year. *

This class is conducted almost entirely in Spanish and requires that you be independent, highly
motivated and that you take initiative for your language goals.

Materials required:
Binder (Can be shared with another subject)
Folder (Must be a IB Spanish folder only)
Pens (Black or Blue ink only for tests and quizzes-notes can be written in any
color)

Spanish-English dictionary is recommended (We do have some in the classroom and at times will
be able to use electronic devices provided by the school for web based dictionaries)

Class Rules/Expectations: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Be respectful of
yourself, your classmates and of me. Always remember to be respectful of the equipment that is
being lent to you.

Lateness/Absences/ Make-up Policy:

Lateness: You are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings. If a student arrives to class
late, he/she must have a pass. Please be respectful and arrive on time.
Absences: You are expected to make up any missed class work, quizzes, and/or exams when
absent. If you are absent on a quiz/test day, you must make it up the following day. Please make
sure to email me if you are absent for two or more consecutive days.
Make-up Policy: You must make an appointment with the teacher within two days of returning
to school to discuss making up any missed class work, quizzes, and/or exams. Missed work
must be made up within a week; if the work is not made up, a 0 for the assignment
will be given.

Extra Help:
Extra help is given every Wednesday after school and/or by appointment. If you have any
questions or cannot meet that day, please see me and we can schedule extra help at another
time. Please make sure to check Classroom or text alerts for any changes.
Grades: All assignments must be handed in ON TIME. Failure to do this will result in a lower
grade.

Essays are an integral part of this course. We will keep a file of your essays and your corrections
in class. It is imperative that you keep all copies of your essays in your Office 365 account.

Homework assignments will vary; some will be nightly, others weekly and others will be due at
the end of the marking period. In order to receive full credit on homework, the assignments

result in lower grades.

Grades will be posted on infinite campus. It is up to the student to make up missing assignments
within 2 school days of missing it. If the missing assignments are not turned it, the grade will be
a 0 for that assignment.
