A/F sensor (sensor 1). It is activated and heats the sensor to stabilise and
speedthedetectionofoxygencontentbycontrollingcurrentflowingthrough
theheater.Anincreaseinthecurrentlevelsoffastheappliedvoltagetothe
element electrode reaches a certain range because the amount of oxygen
which is led through the diffusion layer is limited. The current amperage is
proportional to oxygen content in the exhaust gas, so the air/fuel ratio is
detectedbythemeasurementofthecurrentamperage.TheECMcomparesa
set target air/fuel ratio with the detected air/fuel ratio and controls the fuel
injectiontiming.
IftheA/Fsensor(sensor1)voltageislow,theair/fuelratioislean,andthe
ECMusesA/FfeedbackcontroltoissueaRICHcommand.IftheA/Fsensor
(sensor 1) voltage is high, the air/fuel ratio is rich, and the ECM uses A/F
feedbackcontroltoissueaLEANcommand.Iftheelementisnotactivatedor
theEngineControlModuleterminalvoltageisasetvalueorlessforatleasta
settimeperiodwhenthepowerisdrawntotheA/Fsensor(sensor1)heater,
amalfunctionisdetectedandthecodeisstored.
P1167:TheAir/FuelRatio(A/F)sensor1isinstalledintheexhaustsystem
and detects oxygen content in the exhaust gas. The A/F sensor transmits
outputvoltagetotheEngineControlModule.Aheaterforthesensorelement
isembeddedintheA/Fsensor(sensor1).Itisactivatedandheatsthesensor
tostabiliseandspeedthedetectionofoxygencontentbycontrollingcurrent
flowing through the heater. An increase in the current levels off as the
appliedvoltagetotheelementelectrodereachesacertainrangebecausethe
amount of oxygen which is led through the diffusion layer is limited. The
current amperage is proportional to oxygen content in the exhaust gas, so
the air/fuel ratio is detected by the measurement of the current amperage.
TheECMcomparesasettargetair/fuelratiowiththedetectedair/fuelratio
andcontrolsthefuelinjectiontiming.IftheA/Fsensor(sensor1)voltageis
low,theair/fuelratioislean,andtheECMusesA/Ffeedbackcontroltoissue
a Rich command. If the A/F sensor (sensor 1) voltage is high, the air/fuel
ratio is rich, and the ECM uses A/F feedback control to issue a Lean
command. Possible causes: Faulty Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor 1, Air/Fuel Ratio
Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 circuit poor
electricalconnection

and closing the throttle valve using the ETCS. The ECM concludes that the
idlespeedcontrolECMfunctionismalfunctioningif:
1) The actual idle RPM varies more than the specified amount five times or
moreduringadrivecycleor
2) A learning value of the idle speed control remains at the maximum or
minimum five times or more during a drive cycle. The ECM will turn on the
MILandsetaDTC.
Example:IftheactualidleRPMvariesfromthetargetidleRPMbymorethan
200* rpm five times during a drive cycle, the ECM will turn on the MIL and
willsetaDTC.TheidlespeediscontrolledbytheElectronicThrottleControl
System. The ETCS is composed of the throttle motor, which operates the
throttle valve, and the throttle position sensor, which detects the opening
angle of the throttle valve. The Engine Control Module controls the throttle
motortoprovidetheproperthrottlevalveopeningangletoobtainthetarget
idle speed. Possible causes: Electronic Throttle Control System. Air
inductionsystem,PCVhoseconnection.
The 1130 code is set when A/F sensor output voltage change value is not
whattheEngineControlModuleisexpecting.
TheAirFuelratiosensorvariesitsoutputvoltageinproportiontotheairfuel

theairfuelratioisRICHorLEANandadjuststhestoichiometricairfuelratio.
TheECMalsochecksthefuelinjectionvolumecompensationvaluetocheckif
the A/F sensor is deteriorating or not. A/F sensor response deterioration is
determined by the ratio of the A/F sensor output voltage variation and fuel
trimvariation.Possiblecauses:FaultyAirfuelRatioBank1Sensor1,A/Fratio
Bank1Sensor1harnessisopenorshortedAirfuelRatio(A/F)Bank1Sensor
1 circuit poor electrical connection, Fuel pressure, Fuel injector, Intake air
leaks.
The P1135 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a heated
oxygensensorheatercircuitmalfunction
AirFuel Ratio sensor need to reach a minimum operating temperature of
1200degreesFtoproduceanaccuratevoltagesignal.Thefastertheairfuel
ratiosensorreachesthattemperaturethefasterthesensorwillstartsending
an accurate signal to the Engine Control Module. In order to achieve the
require temperature, a heater element is included inside the airfuel ratio
sensor. The ECM controls the airfuel ratio sensor heater element based on
signals from the engine coolant temperature and engine load. The ECM
controls the heater element circuit by allowing current flow to ground. The
ECMmonitorsthevoltagesignalreceivedthroughtheheaterelementcircuit
and determines the state of the circuit by comparing the voltage detected
with the factory specifications Possible causes: Faulty AirFuel Ratio Sensor
Bank 1 Sensor 1, A/F ratio Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 harness is open or
shorted, A/F ratio Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection,
FaultyEngineControlModule.P1155willbethesameas1135.
