Ask students to complete problems of the day on the board (from text book
powerpoint). Students should write their answer in empty space on page 17

o Work through step two together.
o Compare the first digits of each number (the ones with the greatest
place value). Which digit is greater?
o Is that enough information to determine which number is greater?
o **IMPORTANT** If the place value is not equal, it is easy to determine
which number is greater. Give example.
