EDUCATION
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School, Class of 2018
GPA: 4.62

EXPERIENCE
Volunteering: (Total number of hours from freshman year to present: 120)
CWNC Events
I volunteer at the various events held at my high school throughout the school year, such
as Freshman Orientation, Open Houses, and Scarlet and Gold Day. During freshman
orientation and Scarlet and Gold Day, I helped the incoming freshman and prospective
students throughout the school and through the different events throughout the day. At the
open houses, I am either working at the crew team table talking with prospective students
about being part of the team or at the Leadership Team table discussing the activities
members of the team partake in.

St. Gregory Catholic School

St. Gregorys was my grade school from kindergarten through eighth grade. I love
coming back to help out during the various events held by the church and the school. In
the past I have volunteered at the Lawn Fete, Fish Frys, basketball games, and during
their school day when I do not have school.

Pittsburgh Marathon
Every year since my freshman year, I volunteer at the Pittsburgh Marathon either handing
out the shirts to the runners or their goody bags. I make sure each runner gets the
appropriate shirt or goody bag, and mark their bib when they do.

Leadership Pittsburgh
I aided Leadership Pittsburgh in their efforts to renovate a rundown preschool in the
Pittsburgh area. I painted one of the rooms for a day, painting a wooden play set.

Loop Events
I was a volunteer for the Food for the Hungry organization at the Tobymacs Deep Hits
Concert at Peterson Events Center. During the concert, I would walk around and try to
get the crowd to sponsor a child through the organization.

Mars Home for Youth

I organized a small group of students from my school to get together one day over the
weekend and volunteer at the Mars Home for Youth in Mars, PA. We were assigned to
clean a large room in the attic of one of the houses. Since it was a storage room, there
were many toys and supplies that needed organized. By the end of three hours, we were
able to completely organize that room and items within the room.

Paid Jobs
Photography
This past year, I have the senior pictures for two people. I met that individual one day and
had a photo-shoot for about and hour. I would then take their pictures and go through
with them which ones they liked best, and would edit them using Adobe photography
software. They are able to access their pictures through Dropbox and/or on a USB.

House-sitting/Dog-sitting
Over the summer, I have neighbors who go on vacation and who need someone to water
their plants and watch their dogs. It can range from a day to a week, but I make sure all
the chores they gave me are completed and I get paid at the end.

ACTIVITIES & MEMBERSHIPS

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Crew Team
Coxswain (Winter Freshman YearPresent)
As a coxswain I am the leader of the team on and off the water. My responsibilities
include running practice, organizing the team before races, leading the boat on and the
water, and insuring the safety of my crew. I work closely with my coaches, as I am an
extension of them in the boat. One of the most important parts as a leader on the team is
to foster team spirit among both the novices and varsity members. I help run the team
website and Instagram. A few varsity members and I recently took on sponsoring a child
in Peru, and together we are working on having the whole team be a part of the
opportunity.

Leadership Team
Member (Spring Sophomore YearPresent)
I applied to join the Leadership Team the spring of my sophomore year. The requirements
included a passing grade in all classes, an essay detailing what leadership meant to me
and how I would be a positive addition, and a personal interview with one of the senior
members. I was accepted and today the team is working towards being able to reach out
to grade schools around the area and teach certain topics. My group has worked on a time
management workshop and an emergency situation workshop targeted at grades four
through eight. All members receive a CPR/AED certification, and I completed mine in
February.

World Language Club

Member (Freshman YearPresent)
Members of the World Language Club meet during activity periods throughout the school
year and learn about cultures from around the world. We eat foods from those cultures
and celebrate holidays that are occurring during that time. Members are also able to take
advantage of the Explorica trips hosted by the school. This past winter, I was able to go to
Canada and experience Winter Carnival, dog sledding, the Ice Palace, and much more.
AWARDS & HONORS
Ben Carson Scholar Award (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)
I was awarded the Ben Carson Scholarship in eighth grade, nominated by my teachers. It
is a scholarship to recognize students who excel academically and serve the community.
Requirements included a nomination by an educator, at least a 3.75 GPA, and
demonstrated humanitarian qualities in the community. Each year, scholars can reapply to
the Carson Scholar Recognition, being that they have maintained the required GPA and
continue to serve the community. I have reapplied each year since, and have been
recognized at the annual banquet.

High/Highest Honor Roll

I placed high honor roll in both semesters of my freshman and sophomore year, and first
quarter and third quarters of my junior year. I placed highest honor roll the second quarter
of my junior year. In previous years, high honor roll required above a 93% grade in all
classes. This year, the scale changed with high honor roll being all grades above an 88%
and the GPA no less than a 3.75 and highest honor roll having all grades above a 95% and
a GPA no less than 4.0.
