In Bengal there is a village near rhatta named Nava-grma where Kuvera Paita, the son of
Nsiha lived. Kuvera Paita was exalted on the path of devotion. He knew nothing except
the lotus feet of Lord Ka. On the same standard of devotion was his chaste wife Nbhadev,
the mother of Advaita, who was worshipable by all. They settled in ntipura near the Ganges
and were always absorbed in discussing Ka-kath.
One day r Kuvera Paita and his wife wanted to die after hearing Vaiava blasphemy.
Seeing their state, one fortunate soul pacified them by the desire of Lord Ka. Even though
they were still unhappy, they both fell asleep. After a short time, they both had a wonderful
dream. A beautiful effulgent person, whose bodily luster defeated the beauty of a mountain of
molten gold, appeared before them. This person was holding the hand of another exceedingly
beautiful person and in sweet words said to Him: You should quickly incarnate to relieve the
unhappiness of the living entities who are suffering under the onslaughts of Kali-yuga. By Your
loving invitation, I will be unable to remain here. I will quickly appear along with My elder
brother.'
Hearing these words, the second person became very happy and at an auspicious moment He
entered the womb of Nbhadev. Seeing this, Kuvera Paita became very blissful and, as he
awoke, his heart became overwhelmed.
Kuvera Paita, who was a learned scholar in all the stras, considered in his mind that the
Supreme Lord would appear in Kali-yuga in the form of guru. Thinking this way along with his
wife, he again became overwhelmed and could not check his tears.
From that day on, Nbhadev manifested signs of pregnancy and she therefore returned to
Nava-grma. Soon the whole world became joyful as Advaita Prabhu appeared in the village of
Nava-grma.
Suddenly a voice arose from Him, r Ka Caitanya will appear in this world along with r
Nitynanda Rma. Together with Their associates, They will enjoy wonderful pastimes. They
will distribute loving devotional service in each and every house, thereby destroying the
unhappiness and lamentation of the living entities. The ocean of bliss arising from the
sakrtana movement will overflow and inundate everyone without exception. This Kali-yuga
is so glorious!'
Hearing this voice, everyone became joyful. The house of Kuvera Paita became filled with
auspiciousness. Fortunate people who witnessed Advaita crya grow day by day were filled
with jubilation. Advaita would sometimes hide Himself, and only by the will of r Caitanya
was He found. Having Advaita in their village, the residents of Nava-grma floated in bliss
forgetting all unhappiness and lamentation.
Although the Lord had two namesKamalka and Advaita, everyone called Him Advaita. The
childhood pastimes of Advaita were very wonderful, only fortunate persons were able to witness
them. Who has the power to describe them? r Advaita Prabhu was like the pupil of everyone's
eyes. They glorified Him in lying down and in their dreams. Again and again I say that all His
associates were glorious as is the land of Bengal by the Lord's incarnation there.
r Kuvera Paita, who was most sober and full of loving devotion told everyone, We will
move to the banks of the Ganges.' Then along with his friends and other villagers, they all came
to ntipura from Nava-grma. Staying with a happy heart in ntipura, sometimes he would
go to Navadvpa to meet his friends. Kuvera Paita carefully arranged for the Lord to study
the stras. Within a short time the Lord, the deliverer of the fallen, also became known as a
paita for His learning.
Although the mother and father of Advaita knew the truth about Him, still they forgot
everything due to their parental affection. All the learned people of ntipura were astonished
seeing the activities of Advaita. Someone said, Advaita crya could not be a human for, how
could a human being attract the heart of everyone the way He does? Kuvera Paita is a glorious
personality because he had such a son by whom everyone is benefited.'
In this way the people spoke as Advaita became the life and soul of everyone. Who can
understand the desire of Advaita Prabhu, who gave His parents so much happiness in various
ways?
After some time the Lord's mother and father disappeared and Advaita went to Gay to offer
rddha. Taking the opportunity He visited all the holy places along the way. At that time He
took mantra dika from Mdhavendra Pur. Who has the power to understand the activities of
Advaita, who travelled always filled with ecstatic love of God?
While traveling thus, Advaita Prabhu arrived at Mathur-maala. Seeing the beauty of Vraja,
He became overwhelmed in ecstasy. After seeing all the places, He came to Vndvana,
whereupon all the Vraja-vss carefully arranged His stay. Eating only some fruits, roots, and
milk, people were astonished seeing His luster. Mad in ecstatic love, the Lord roared and cried
out, Will I see Ka?'
In this way Advaita crya would feel various ecstatic moods at different times. The Lord
would worship Ka near the Yamun. Then, knowing that the time had come for the
appearance of Lord Caitanya, He left Vndvana and returned to Bengal. The pastimes of
Advaita crya are like nectar, but only the fortunate can taste them.
O rnivsa, the tree under which Advaita crya used to stay became well known as Advaita-
vaa. Just by seeing this Advaita-vaa one's sinful reactions are mitigated and the very rare gift
of devotional love is obtained.
See the plants and creepers on the bank of Klind which are always fresh and beautiful. This
is the very old tintidi tree [tamarind tree known as mli-tal] where Rdh and Ka enjoyed
Their pastimes with Their associates. Remembering His previous activities, Lord Caitanya came
here and sat in unlimited happiness.
Advaita Acharya strongly condemns Vaisnava Aparadha
Giving up relationships with nondevotees is most essential; rla Advaita Prabhu gives the
following statement in the Caitanya-bhgavata (CB Madhya-khaa 19.175):
yadi mora putra haya, haya v kikara
vaiavpardh mui n dekho gocara
When Advaita crya was on pilgrimage He came here to admire the beauty of Mathur. A
fallen brahmin who lived there was always criticizing Vaiavas it was his regular habit. He
was very proud of his learning and wicked in all respects. The gentle people of Mathur
trembled of fear of him.
eke dina prabhu advaitera sannidhne; koroye vaiava nind dusaha ravae
uni advaitera krodhvea atiaya; kpe ohdhara, rakta vara netra-dvaya
mah-darpa koriy kohoye br bra; ore re paa! tora nhiko nistra
cakra loiy hte ei dekho vidyamna; tora mua kiy koribo khn khn
One day he criticized Vaiavas in a way that was impossible to tolerate, in Advaita Prabhus
presence. When Advaita heard it He was overcome with great anger divine. With trembling
lips and reddened eyes He said time and again in a greatly challenging way: O you atheist!
There is no redemption for you! Look here at the disk in My hand I will slice your head of
with it!
eto kohiyi prabhu caturbhuja hoil; dekhi viprdhama bhoye kpite lgil
kara-jor koriy kohoye br br; ye ucit daa prabhu koroho mr
dusaga prayukta mora buddhi-na hoilo; n jni vaiava-tattve apardh koilo
koinu apardha yoto sakhy nhi tr; mo heno paa prabhu koroho uddhr
Saying this, Advaita Prabhu assumed a four-armed form, seeing which the brahmin began to
tremble of fear. Folding his hands, he said time and again, O Lord, punish me as You deem
fit! My intelligence was destroyed through bad company not knowing the facts about
Vaiavas I committed offences. There is no limit to the number of offences I committed O
Lord, please redeem a godless heretic like me!
eto kohi viprdhama koroye rodana; caturbhuja mrti prabhu koil samvaraa
dekhiy viprera da day hoilo mane; anugraha kori kohe madhura vacane
Saying this, the fallen brahmin wept and the Lord withdrew His four-armed form. When He
saw the condition of the brahmin, Advaita Prabhu became compassionate and mercifully
spoke these sweet words:
koil apardha mah-naraka bhujite; ebe ye kohiye th koro svahite
panke spardha hoiy sarva-kaa; sarva tyga kori koro nma-sakrtana
pra-paa kori santoib vaiavere; sad svadhna hob vaiavera dvre
bhakti aga yjanete niyukta hoibe; dekhile ye mrti th gopane rkhibe
You committed offences so you should suffer a terrible hell, so listen carefully now to what I
will say you have been offensive all along, now give all this up and engage in nma
sakrtan. Stake your life in the effort of pleasing the Vaiavas and always deal with them
carefully. Engage in the different limbs of devotional practise, and dont tell anyone of the
form of mine you have just seen.
aiche koto kohi prabhu gelen bhramae; vipra mah-matta hoil r nma-krtane
mathury vaiavera ghare ghare giy; koroye rodan mah-dainya prakiy
Saying this much, Advaita Prabhu continued His pilgrimage, while the brahmin went mad in
the ecstasy of harinm sakrtan. Weeping he went from door to door, seeing all the
Vaiavas of Mathur, showing great humility.
dekhiy viprera ce vaiava sakala; prasanna hoiy cinte viprera magala
keho kohe akasmt carya dekhiye; keho kohe chaye kraa nivediye
mathurya si eka tairthika brhmaa; chilen gopane tr tejo srya-sama
vicrinu se vara manuya kra; tr anugrahe vipra hoilo e prakra
When the resident Vaiavas saw the brahmins behaviour they were very pleased and
thought of his welfare. Someone said - What an amazing sudden (change) I saw! Another
one said: I tell you how this happened one brahmin pilgrim came to Mathur. Although He
tried to conceal Himself He shone like the sun. I now realize that He was God in a human
form it is by His mercy only that this brahmin changed like this.
