1. The behaviorist explanation of language development where, parents
serve as positive reinforcement to a babies babbling, and give negative reinforcement to incorrect grammar. The nativist explanation of language development is that language is guided by an innate language processor called LAD, which puts in effect basic grammar rules of all languages. Finally, the interactionist explanation of language development where it is believed that, there is an innate proclivity to learn language and the basic sounds of language, but there is not a specific processor like the LAD. Furthermore, the explanation argue that infants brain has a broad overview of grammatical tools that develops more as the infants brain develops. 2. The stages of Piagets sensorimotor explanations which includes: primary (the baby observes all actions going on around him/her), secondary (the baby begins simple sounds and observes the reactions he receives positive or negative) and tertiary circular reactions (the baby begins experimenting with different sounds rather than repeating), along with object permanence (infants realize that just because they cant see something doesnt mean it doesnt exist), means-end behavior (the thought to have a basic goal and think about how to achieve it), and deferred imitation (a childs imitation of an action that happened previously in time which is not always a direct response). 3. Memory function in infants which challenges Piagets views. A couple month old babies have shown signs of remembering experiences over a time span lasting roughly a week. Lost memories can be reactivated by symbols or images of a specific event that a baby took note of at the time. In this way, babies can remember more extensively than Piaget hypothesized, but the memories are very specific and dependent on the cues that the baby related to the memory. 2 Connections 1. Although it is not supported in the text I thought it would be interesting to bring up that I have a memory of my brother dropping rocks in a sewer near my old house. I was not even born yet, but I brought it up to my mother and she said confirmed that my memory was accurate. We moved from that house before I was even born, so it is definitely interesting that I am still able to remember that. 2. My mother tells me that I progressed very quickly in language development and says that I was speaking full sentences when I was about 18 months old. I just thought it was interesting to note that I developed language early and it could be an effect of my parents speaking to me more often as a child. 1 Question 1. My question isnt really about the text but is my first question possible? I have never really had the chance to ask someone who really knows what they are talking about.
